After NEXT years season ends (from January 2004 to August 2004) they will take down the seating portion of the old west upper deck (leaving the support structure). They will replace it with a newer, better seating structure that matches the new east upper deck ("J" shaped). The press box will be moved to the TOP of the new structure. Instead of suites, there will be more club seating where the press box was.

I don't know the timeline, but there are also plans to remove the old dorms, and remodel the bathrooms and concession stands in the lower bowl.

LSU will no longer sell the concesions. They are contracting out to a private company.

The long term plans (7-8 years) the plan is to connect the upper decks on the south side to increase capacity to over 110,000.

Of course, ticket prices will go up this year. Amount unknown.

Do you know if capacity will be increased after remodeling the upper deck? If so, how much?

I'm sure it would be - the east upper is longer and the press box would be replaced by club seats - but I don't know by how much.

    What about season tickets

It does not sound like the upper west will be finished before the following football season so what about the season ticket holders on the upper west what are they going to do about that.

I was thinking about that, too. Remember though, it took two years to build the east deck from nothing, but the support structure is already there on the west side. I remember sitting on the west side of the stadium in 99 when the support structure wasnt even finished, but the project was completed by the beginning of the 2000 season.

If I'm understanding this correctly, after two more seasons they will take down the upper west deck and replace it before the third season begins (i.e. there would not be a season without a west deck in place)? Also, as far as the long term plans go, it is unlikely LSU could fill 110,000+ on a regular basis. I think it may be worth it to have a few games with empty seats for the chance to sell out a big game but I keep going back and forth on the idea. What do you guys think?

The idea is to do all of the west upper replacement during 1 off-season. It can be done because only the seating area will be replaced. Apparently it is the support structure that takes a long time to build, and that is already done.

I agree that we might not sell out 110,000 for the weak games. But if we sell it out for just some of the games it will be profitable.

Anyway the south end expansion is just a long term plan. If we have continued success and take it to the next level then we will fill it. If we do not have success then there will be no need to build it and we won't do it.

Thats the idea. The west deck should be completed before the 2004 season (and after the 2003 season). I think if there were 110,000 seats we would regularly fill em up. We averaged 90,491 in attendance last year with a capacity of 91,600. We were over capacity in every SEC game except for Arkansas which is the friday after Thanksgiving. We were also over capacity for the Tulane game. MTSU, Utah St., and Arkansas were the only games that didnt fill up, and they averaged 88,521. If the stadium held 110,000 people, there will still be games that "only" 89,000 people attend, but the other 4 or 5 games will fill to capacity. Thats my take on it, anyway. I think it will be successful.

Man would i love to be there with 110,000 fans! Now that would be LOUD. Y'all would fill it up most of the time but it all depends on how much you're winning. My .02 worth
