I was in one or two minor fender benders with my mom driving when I was a kid. I was in two accidents as a passenger when I was 18 (about a month apart). I've never been in an accident as a driver over roughly 20 yrs.

I've never seen a significant accident happen although would estimate that I've seen about 5-8 fender benders over my lifetime. Most are either in front of me or a couple of lanes over (interstate) when someone rear ends a car (i.e. hear the tires screeching, look over, and see the cars collide).

The most significant near-miss was travelling on I-10 East somewhere between Lake Charles and Lafayette a few years ago. A car was in the left lane, drove onto the median, did a quick 180, then briefly was going the wrong way and nearly hit a car in front of me head-on (but then drove back into the median).

1 wreck that was my fault, I've been hit 4 times through no fault of my own.

You know, not near as many as I would have thought at this point.

Once driving from St. Louis to Ft. LeonardWood at about 1 am I saw an 18 wheeler lose control on the ice and do a 180 on the interstate. He managed to somehow get it to the median but I'm sure he was "shaken"

Another time this drunk chic smashed into me at a red light at like 7am. I'm thinking she was on her way home from the previous night because she had fuck me heels on, well one of them anyway, and her bra was in her purse.

I once got rear ended three times in about 4 months. It was terrible. And I know what you're thinking, I must run up on people then slam on my brakes. The thing is, I was at a dead stop for at least a 2-3 count on two of them. That was a bad run. Totally shithoused my car too. Couldn't go over 74 without it damn near breaking into pieces.

Only one bad wreck. I was tooling down the highway, when an 84-year-old man pulled out of a country store parking lot right in front of me and then froze in my lane when he saw me. With traffic approaching in the other lane and cars parked along the highway, all I could do was stand on the brakes and brace myself. I got the speed down from 65 to about 35 when I T-boned him in the front fender. No one was hurt, but my little car was totaled. It was pre-air bag, but I bent the steering wheel from bracing myself and did not eat any windshield.

A near wreck just a few years ago was eerily similar. A 16-year-old paying more attention to his girlfriend than the traffic ran a stop sign and forced me to take the ditch at 60 miles an hour in an SUV. Fortunately for me the ditch was dry, shallow, and relatively smooth and I was able to slow down and drive back up onto the shoulder without radical steering which would have surely made my high-center-of-gravity vehicle roll multiple times.

These days, I just expect that clueless people will pull out in from of me and I watch them like a hawk.

Three or four fender benders as a teenager but haven't been in an accident in some time, thank the lord. I have seen some pretty severe accidents and have had a least one major near miss. Funny how it seems everything moves in slow motion when witnessing a bad accident.

One time in Bayou Blue, I was heading towards 182, there was a 18 wheeler in front of me, and an old jeep cherokee was coming towards Houma. The lady driving the jeep crossed the centerline, ran up undereath the trailer of the big rig in front of me, proceeded to bounce off the trailer tire, completely spin around, and just missed tagging me as I passed. Debris was flying around, and as the jeep spun by me, it was so close I could have tapped the hood if I wanted to. The jeep ended up coming to rest against a guard rail facing the wrong direction, eventually being hit head on by a young man in a dodge dakota pickup. I was a little shaken to say the least.

have been in the usual few fender benders as everyone else and have seen several minor ones happen. The only 2 that really comes to mind and stands apart from the others werent wrecks but still think they fit in the spirit of the thread. One was when I was headed west on I-10 running about 75 and a older white honda came past me like I was sitting still. Had to be running 90-100 easy. Car got about 50 yards in front of me and the hood flew open slamming against the car's windshield. Drivers obviously freaked and totally lost control and went to spinning and sliding like crazy. Luckily for them, me, and everyone else around us it was in a wide open area with lots of median and shoulder grass and everyone was able to avoid him as he finally slid to a stop. Unbelievable that he didnt flip but somehow it stayed on all 4s.

the other I was headed east again on I-10 and a black Mercedes came burning past me....I mean this sucker had it pinned down well over 100. Got about 100 or so yards ahead of me in just a second or 2 and all of the sudden something about the size of a large coffee can came flying out the passenger window and when it hit the road it exploded into a thick white cloud. Dont have to guess to much what that was. About that same time the blue lights started flashing in my mirror and the cops past me up. Cops were a good hlaf mile or more behind him.

I'm surprised that has never happened to me. At least a few of the accidents I've witnessed were one car rear ending another and that type of accident has to be more common now with texting/browsing while driving. I've got to be due for it to happen to me soon. I've also nearly rear ended other drivers a few times but slammed on the brakes quickly enough.

I've only been in 1 actual auto accident in my life, it was my fault, I was 18 and The sun was directly in my eyes glaring like hell through my 76 Skylark windshield... I ran a red light cuz I couldn't see it... and smacked an old lady right in the front of her front passenger door and tire well.

She gunned the gas, drove down a little hill, hit a roach coach motel wall pushing ACs back in to the rooms... and hit a parked contractors truck that hit another.

Yeh my dads Ins. dropped me off the coverage...

Only wreck I have ever been in. Was an expensive lesson.
