I just watched sports monday with Lee Feinswog (his squint creeps me out) and he had Jimbo Fisher and Will Muschamp on. Well of course the quarterback question wasn't going to be ignored, so when asked Jimbo seemed very confident that Marcus Randall was the one for the job, he did not even mention Flynn or Russel. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out in the spring.

tbass82...Randall is a 5th year senior with starting experience and bowl game experience who guided the team to a New Year's Day Bowl Game.

The thought of having two redshirt freshman quarterbacks with zero snaps with teh 1st team going into spring practice isn't what ANYONE has in mind.

If Randall is not afforded an opportunity based on ability as much as experience and dedication, what would that say?

He won 3 conference games, and also basically won a 4th to get us to the title game before a late gaffe by our defense in the debacle in Fayettenam...Or was it Little Rock(s in their heads)?

Just remember this...No team has ever won a national title with a true freshman as a starting quarterback...and only one has made it to the national championship game with a redshirt freshman quarterback....That's Va Tech in 99....

I want to see those two freshman just as much as anyone, but I think Randall will be the starter at the beginning of the year.

Judging by that post I'm not sure we were watching the same 2003 games with Randall - he was AWFUL in mop up roles, and if you think LSU has ANY shot at repeating, you're fooling yourself.

Have you forgotten or just closed your eyes?

No matter how inexperienced the reddies are, at least one of them will be better than Randall under Jimbo's training. I completely disagree with playing Randall more than 1/4 in the first several games because the other two QB's are our future - it is pointless not to get them as much playing time as possible before the SEC crunch starts.

I agree with sos as well.....I would much rather see a rookie make his normal rookie mistakes early on in the season than to watch an experienced Randall keep making the same ole mistakes over and over again. He was mediocre at best even in 2002, the running game and defense kept us afloat. And we should have lost to Kentucky, so the Arkansas loss just balanced that out.

Randall may even start the first couple of games. But by the time SEC play rolls around, one of the frosh will be leading us to victory.

I spoke to a Coach that was part of the LSU 2003 Team but who is not there anymore and he told me last week that MATT FLYNN is very good and I took that as to mean dont write JR in just yet.

I'm sure Jimbo and Saban give a rats ass what we think about who should be starting at quarterback. They just won a national championship, so if they think Randall is the man, then I have to believe Randall is the man. 2002 was a long time ago and Marcus has had a lot of growing time under his belt. Before we annoint Russell or Flynt as the next messiah, we should give Randall a chance to prove himself. He was thrust into the starting role a year and a half ago, and did not do his best, but that does not mean he could not improve.

Guys...I didn't say that Randall is the answer in '04...

What I said is that Fisher-as he should have-has made it clear that himself, and head coach Nick Saban, will have Randall as the clear #1. I also think that every opportunity will be given to one of the freshman to separate and begin to challenge for playing time.

I will AGAIN point to people who denigrate a good football player that he piloted LSU to a New Year's Day Bowl. He got benched and came back to be named SEC Player of the Week after a tough Ole Miss win.

Fisher seems to have GREAT confidence in him, as evidenced by the glowing remarks he made about him tonight. He said not one word about the freshman, but then again, he's not going to at this point.

My point is that anyone who says that Randall won't have a shot at leading this team, and that Randall isn't the BEST guy at this point with the MOST experience, and those that say he DOES NOT have the athletic ability...Well, they don't know what they're talking about...

Remember...Matt Mauck REALLY looked like a Sugar Bowl winning quarterback against MSU at home in 2002, when he went 4-12 and didn't attempt a pass after the 2nd quarter, did he?

Randall didn't get to fatten up with the non-con and easy conference teams in '02...As Mauck did...

Randall got fed to the hogs...a revengeminded Auburn, a pissed off by a made up story by Franconblowme in Bama, and also Ole Miss, South Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Texas...

Not exactly the same murderers row of The Citadel, Miami of Ohio and Moo U, eh? Teams that finished what, with 9 wins, 10 wins, and the others making appearances in Bowl games, NYD bowl games, and SEC Title games?

    Hmm...

I think losing Damien James on D didn't have anything to do with inept defensive performances, too, huh?

We went from #1, to giving up what...31 points, 31 points, 30 points, 35 points, and giving up a late gaffe over the SAFETY for the title costing shot at the SEC?

We lost our SAFETY for a game this year, and what happened?

There were LOTS of extenuating circumstances for Randall's performance, not the least of which was being thrown into the middle of a grinding season without their quarterback on defense due to ganja problems and an offense that had lost its cohesiveness and field general...

    Go ahead and fire away....
