Thats why I like a flat tax. Progressive based on income, but a number that is fair with NO deductions.

not many people seem to have a problem with corporate welfare, for instance the farm bill, increased the dollars in the insurance program to farmers, but cut food stamps 800 million. hmmm

Dude, I don't know how true this is, but out here in West Texas I am told some farmers get paid by the government to NOT FARM.....

Companies shouldn't be subsidized. If they can't compete, they can't compete.

Indeed. Flat tax only works if all the deductions, credits, and loopholes are closed.

Especially Exxon/Mobil, the most profitable corporation in history. Big oil needs no subsidies whatsoever.

It's called set aside land around here. A farmer in Lyon has land in it, 1200 acres and is paid $400 an acre to keep it clean.

Corporate welfare has gotten out of hand no doubt and it needs to be changed radically like the whole tax structure. However there is good reason for government incentives. For instance there is a mineral depletion allowance for oil, mining and similar endeavors that are needed and have sound financial basis. There are incentives to get companies to sell overseas and others. The government has an interest in promoting commerce and tax incentives are a time proven method. There are subsidies for development of new technology and processes that keep us on the leading edge industrially.
The problem is like so many government programs they take on a life of their own and grow beyond what they were intended to do. As I said they need to be managed much better and change with the time which hasn't happened.
If it is in the national interest to provide incentive, subsidy or tax break then that is ok but it needs strict management.
