1. IMO this is certainly the best all around secondary LSU has ever produced. One of the best ever in college football. LSU has produced some great secondaries over this great run we are in the midst of. THe depth in this secondary is what makes it stand out as clearly the best. We are very strong in every facet. Not to mention guys coming off the bench would start for many teams.

I think Webster/Daniels and even Jackson/Zenon wash out with Claiborne/TM7. The coverage is the same but this years group are better playmakers. The separation in starters comes form Reid/Taylor. They trump the other starting S combos. Then you add the depth.
  2. Something to remember is that Blue Gay played behind Travis and Corey and all of them have had quality pro careers though Randall had the most team success in the NFL. Corey has done well for himself with the Giants. So the 2003 group had 3 NFL corners on it. The difference in the safeties and the types they are is what is the difference, probably.
  3. I think you just nailed it.
  4. And some freshman named Laron Landry that led the team in tackles :thumb:
  5. Landry was the hardest hitter I think I've ever seen. He still lays the wood.
  6. Why wouldn't the college world want to see the nation's best offense, with their all world receivers, play the nation's best defense, with the two best corners in the country?

It would be the Godzilla vs king kong matchup.
The "sec defense" aginst the " big 12 offense". That has to sell tickets.
  7. I didn't realize Travis Daniels was still playing in the NFL until he picked off Roethlisberger last week.
  8. Saying that TM7 is better Claiborne is just asinine. Mathieu is free to make plays like he does because Claiborne locks down his entire side of the field. Mathieu is a playmaker, but on an island, in man-coverage, he has been exposed several times this year.
  9. you're a little overboard with the Mathieu can't cover stuff

you've harped on that on more than one occasion

he isn't the lockdown corner that Claiborne is, but he has done a very good job otherwise

    ..............Breakups....Passes Defended
    Simon..........9..............10
    Claiborne......5..............10
    Mathieu........7...............9
    Brooks..........5...............7
    Taylor..........5...............7

  10. Brandon Taylor a mid second/ late third? I do not see that, am I missing something here??
