I know he (along with the rest of the team) had a totally subpar night tonight but we need to stick behind Marcus. He is a great guy and team player and his presence will help settle in the freshmen qb's. I think Marcus himself will be MUCH better later in the year after he gets over some nerves. I think its obvious that JaMarcus Russell is our future but lets not discard Mr Randall just yet. He has paid his dues for 5 years for us and deserves much support. ldskule:
I already posted this on another thread but it is pertinent to this thread so I will repost. I truly wanted Marcus to have a good game and a good season. LSU does not need a first round pick at QB to win National Championships as long as they continue to play defense the way that they are capable. Tonight it looked to me that Randall was terrified to make a mistake and had a dazed and confused look on his face. In his defense the play calling was suspect in the first half with the conditions on the field. It was my opinion up to this point that Randall had excelled over JaMarcus but tonight has lead me to believe that JaMarcus is a much better "game player" than Randall. I am sure that he is a good guy but the collegiate football season is only 11 games and I want the best player on the field. I thought that JaMarcus looked much more confident and able in his first chance to get playing time than Randall looked after 5 years. If Nick Saban says that Randall is still the starter than I trust in his judgement but right now I think that JaMarcus should start the next game.
I agree that JaMarcus should be the starter but I have a feeling Marcus will be playing quite a few snaps this year and I'd like to see people be on his side and not against him(i.e. the ridicilous booing). He did have a terrible night tonight but I still see him as a valuable piece to this years team.
I was pretty upset with everybody booing our own players. Nick will make the decisions, and we need to support that. I believe it was once said, that the key to winning against LSU in Death Valley is to get up on us early and we will turn on our team. Nothing could dissapoint me more than to see that happen with fans booing Randall. I personally feel that Jamarcus is the man, and that Randall should only play when we need him, but I'll trust Nick to make the right decision.
I fully support Marcus Randall and wish him nothing but the best. However I don't feel like he has proven that he is the best QB for the job. If you can't get it done against OSU at home, with a ton of talent around you, in your 5th year then it may be time to let someone else give it a try. I hope he comes back and wins the Heisman this year but I'm not betting the house on it.
Marcus cannot read a defense and makes poor decisions. This is not how a fifth year senior should play. A redshirt freshman played just as good. That should tell you something. Jamarcus will progress and excel where marcus will not. HE has had FIVE years.
... The fifth year QB did make the winning TD. The rsfm played just as bad as anyone on the offense. The defense played and keep it close enough for us to get lucky and win. And both QB's helped win the game.
wow someone actually noticed MR made the winning TD? You're the only poster I've seen with any sense.
All I am saying is that it is obviouse that Jamarcus can do nothing but get better with experience where as marcus may and I say may be as good as he is going to be and that is not good enough. you can talk all you want about how marcus just needs time or whatever. He has had time and he still looks like the same player that we seen in 2002 for most of the games he played in. Dont you think that he should have progressed a little since then
Bottom line, Randall does not have the talent to be our starting QB. He showed it tonight. JRussell should and will be the starting QB. That being said, Randall is the true team player and should be commended for that. But to say he should be starting QB is a bit of a stretch. Unless you don't mind losing all 3 road games against the big 3 SEC teams we are playing, starting with Auburn.
