    Let's go the video:
Note the referee running stride for stride with Billy on the sidelines for the last 50 yards. I remember this play being discussed on radio some time back, and a guy called in claiming to have been that ref. The kicker is, he claimed to not be a college official, but a high school ref. He said the game was sold out, so he put on his high school ref uniform and snuck in the gate where the refs entered the stadium and got on the field. Also claimed that the head of the referee crew spotted him and told him he knew he wasn't supposed to be there, but so long as he behaved, he wouldn't have him kicked out. Helluva story, if only I could believe it.
