This is my early, off season call. So, what are your thoughts.

Quarterbacks -- Florida. Leake is the only QB in the league who absolutely owns his position. He has the tools and the talent. LSU and Georgia have talent, but they have not yet performed.

Running backs -- LSU. Broussard, Addai, Vincent and Carey led the SEC in rushing last year and all return. Power, speed, and depth. Georgia and Tennessee will be good, maybe Bama.

Receivers -- Florida. Only because they have a proven quarterback to get them the ball. This will make them more efective. LSU and Auburn receivers actually have more talent but need a quarterback to emerge to take advantage of it. If that happens this could change.

Offensive line -- Tie. LSU, Georgia, and Auburn all have distinguished offensive lines and it's hard to pick between them. Tennessee maybe, too.

Defensive line -- LSU by a hair. Almost another tie with Bama and Georgia also having fine defensive lines. LSU has more depth which is essential in the SEC. The loss of Spears will be made up for with the emergence of Williams. Tennessee and Ole Miss might have good lines.

Linebackers -- Alabama because of Freddie Roach, but Auburn is very close. Georgia and Tennessee will be good. LSU and Florida have unproven talent but an opportunity to surprise some people.

Defensive backs -- Georgia edges Alabama but both will be good. Florida and Auburn also good. LSU lost two DBs who will play in the NFL but still will be a strong backfield.

Pretty good analysis and comments, even if I disagree with a few things:

Quarterbacks -- Florida. Leake is the only QB in the league who absolutely owns his position. He has the tools and the talent. LSU and Georgia have talent, but they have not yet performed. Agree with you here, except for the part about UGA. Shockley is no Russell, my friend.

Running backs -- LSU. Broussard, Addai, Vincent and Carey led the SEC in rushing last year and all return. Power, speed, and depth. Georgia and Tennessee will be good, maybe Bama. Bama's backs have been decimated by injury. No way they make this list in my mind.

Receivers -- Florida. Only because they have a proven quarterback to get them the ball. This will make them more efective. LSU and Auburn receivers actually have more talent but need a quarterback to emerge to take advantage of it. If that happens this could change. Good points, but I would take either set of Tigers over the Gators. If the QBs mature, it will be a long season for SEC secondaries.

Offensive line -- Tie. LSU, Georgia, and Auburn all have distinguished offensive lines and it's hard to pick between them. Tennessee maybe, too. Right on the mark.

Defensive line -- LSU by a hair. Almost another tie with Bama and Georgia also having fine defensive lines. LSU has more depth which is essential in the SEC. The loss of Spears will be made up for with the emergence of Williams. Tennessee and Ole Miss might have good lines. Auburn's DEs led the conference in sacks last year as reserves. Groves and McClover will be a nightmare for opposing teams.

Linebackers -- Alabama because of Freddie Roach, but Auburn is very close. Georgia and Tennessee will be good. LSU and Florida have unproven talent but an opportunity to surprise some people. Alabama's depth will be a problem. They will wear out unless some young kids step up.

Defensive backs -- Georgia edges Alabama but both will be good. Florida and Auburn also good. LSU lost two DBs who will play in the NFL but still will be a strong backfield. Auburn has tons of talent and tons of questions. This is the weak link in the defense. Losing two players that will play on Sunday is a problem that won't be completely solved until mid season. LSU and Auburn are in the same boat here.

Quarterbacks -- Will go with UF. Leak will have a lot of downfield chances next year.

    Running backs -- LSU easily.

Receivers -- I am not sold on any team's WR. LSU's has a chance to be great...same with UF.

Offensive line -- UGA. Improvment from last year to the previous was night and day. With the same coming back plus some starters injured all of last year, I expect a great OL.

Defensive line -- LSU by a good bit. I am counting on them to step it up BIG TIME this year. UGA doesnt come close with Pollack gone.

Linebackers -- Alabama because of Freddie Roach....agreed.

Defensive backs -- Georgia wins this, imo

We have the best WR's by far, it doesn't matter that UF has Leak throwing them the ball, Skyler/Bowe/Davis/Carter/Doucet/etc. is better than any unit in the SEC, maybe the country.

Only if somebody can get them the ball. They were all here last year and LSU was nationally #72 in passing and # 6 in the SEC. Florida, Auburn, Georgia, Arkansas. and Tennessee were all ahead of LSU. Only Bowe and Davis made the top-10 receivers in the SEC at #8 and #9. No, LSU has receivers with a lot of speed, reputation, and potential, but they haven't delivered yet because they haven't played with a top quarterback yet.

LSU has individuals who are fine receivers, but as a unit they can't be on the top unless they have a QB who can throw the ball.

Point taken, but if we're just ranking units then you shouldn't factor in the QB play, in which case we're visibly better than UF, or whoever else.

LSU has the most talent at WR, imo....bar none not even close.

But that really means nothing unless Russell gets his butt into the film room and plants it there.

I'd like to see Jimbo fall out of love with the bubble screeen and flirt with the post or fly pattern. We got the jets to blow by anyone's secondary.
