It really is nice to have a coach with a likable personality, now if he can get some wins Tiger fans will fall in love with the guy. Miles in Lafayette
If anyone watched the 11 A.M. Big XII game o' da' week on FSN on a regular basis, they saw what Miles can do with minimal talent. The morons go on about blowing a 28 point lead against Texas without considering he HAD a 28 point lead with THAT talent. Some SEC schools hired pretty boy offenses run by # 1 draft picks, we hired a guy who won in very tough conference with tulame type talent. I appreciate Saban's amazing contribution. He left for greener pastures. His replacement is no Ray Perkins. We hired a winner who is not afraid of the fickleness of LSU fans. He knew what he was getting into and isn't backing down. I like that in a coach. He see LSU as a national title contender every year.
Good, thanks for posting this article link. Now, whenever some people around here slam those of us who expect big things from this team for "making the widdle coach unhappy and more likely to leave because of us mean, unrealistic fans", I can just point to this and tell them to sit and spin. :thumb:
i do like the fact that he's so open about wanting to win championships. but there is definitely something to the 'let's just worry about the next game' mentality that saban always insisted on. i hope miles takes on a similar mentality during the season. if not, the team could be at risk of an embarassing loss by way of overlooking an undermatched opponent, particularly with this being a somewhat younger team.
I like his goal "I promise you it will be very much unlike me to underscore our ability to win," Miles said. "The plan is to win every one of them. The plan is to be in the Southeastern Conference championship game, the BCS championship game and the national championship game. That is the goal, I promise you." Let the football season start. :geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige :geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige
WOW. These are actually goals Miles has set. And I thought we were just trying to be mediocore. Sorry miles but those are the same goals Mississippi State has. Just get it done and keep the program clean.
Nope, Sly Croom wants to win the SEC this year, not the Rose Bowl. Hudson Hallman and DiZero made passing comments about the National Title. Miles is focused on it. Miles has set the arena he playing in, the national picture. Coaches like Tommy Bowden, John Smith, and Houston Nutt speak of the title, but do not have the talent to win it and they know it. Miles knows he has the talent and still talks of winning it all. I think it's pretty impressive. I am sick of coachspeak, "One game at a time... Oh, Directional Missouri can beat any team on any given Saturday... Coach JoeBlow has those kids playing at a higher level..."
well, upfront speeches never won anyone any football games. i'm guessing you weren't sick of coachspeak around the fall '03... underestimating and looking past teams, as well as not taking the season one game at a time, results in travesties like a)losing to ole piss the week after knocking off the #1 gators, and b)losing at home to UAB.
I'm sure that during the season Miles will focus his remarks on the next game or thge last game and we will hear coachspeak. It's the offseason now, he can talk about the goals of the program.
