I couldn't agree with you more Navy. I knew you would feel the same as me about O'keefe. I think we should count our lucky stars for having him. I wouldn't expect red55 to echo our feelings. He and I got into a little debate a few months ago about O'keefe. I guess there are a few people who don't like the idea that we gave him tenure as part of his deal.
LSU - Navy? That wouldn't even make it on to tv.. if you are gonna schedule a home-and-home, at least schedule a bcs team you can get on tv with.
Glad you guys like O'Keefe. As I posted here before his hiring was official, I work for NASA and know him personally. I thought he would be great as your chancellor for a lot of reasons, one being his Louisanna background. I weas surprised at the negative reaction by some including a lot of faculty.
The only hang up with scheduling Navy is Chet Gladchuck, the USNA athletic directorand former Tulane AD. He was ranked just behind Roy Danforth on the pantheon of Tulane officals slandering everything LSU. He wants zero to with anything remotely LSU.
I definetly think that game would get on TV. Why? because I dont think its happened before. people like to see different games like those.
Nonsense. I'm a big fan of O'Keefe. As an LSU researcher, I think he'll bring more research dollars to LSU which is very good. He's also a supportive of athletics in the mold of Emmert. And he looks like Inspector Clouseau, one of my favorite characters! Still, giving him academic tenure as a "perk" was a major mistake. Tenure must be earned, it is never given as a reward, much less as a hiring incentive. It actually violated LSU's own tenure policy which are strictly adhered to for everyone else. His lack of a Ph D raised a few eyebrows among the faculty, but there are many highly-regarded employees at LSU without Ph D's, so he got a bye on that one. But giving a person tenure who had never worked a day for LSU is unprecedented. So he has tenure now, but without the professional respect that ordinarily comes with it. Respect must be earned, it can never be just awarded as a "perk". If he stays at LSU for 7 years he would have earned it anyway. He should have declined it until he was academically worthy.
