I'm not so sure anyone would have ever thought the "Fun 'n Gun" would have worked in the SEC but we all know how that went. While I'm not going to compare the Mountain West to the SEC, the mid majors have made up quite a bit of ground on the power conferences over the last 5 or so years.
LSU won't be overwhelming... Maybe. We have a lot of talent, and a few question marks. QB is a question mark. Coaching staff is mostly new, they look like quality to me, maybe better at each non head coach job. Saban was proven quality. Miles will probably not be quite as good, but he can still win a lot with his maybe better staff. Some of you seem cock sure we'll kick everyone's butt. Nobody knows how the season will go. You see, THAT'S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT COLLEGE FOOTBALL! There will be surprises and upsets. These are young men. There are talent gaps on all the teams. THAT'S WHY THEY PLAY THE GAMES, AND WE ALL WATCH TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. We play 6 team in the preseason top 25. That's a rough row to hoe. I'll say it again, a clean sweep is possible, but realistically, 9-2 is a basic good season, if the coaching staff is good but not outstanding their first year together, and the QB play is good and solid. If the coaching staff does an excellent job and the QB play is very good and consistent, we could go 10-1. If the coaches come through with outstanding efforts as do the QB's, and we get some luck along the way, 11-0 is a possibility. I'll let the post season take care of itself, hoping for the best.
Houtiger has a good point, this is an LSU board and everyone thinks this LSU football team is going to beat everyone. Just like people were saying that the LSU baseball team was going to go undefeated last year. The thing is this is basically the same team that played last year, we barely beat Oregan St, Troy St. and that was with a veteran defense. A lot of things will have to align just right for this team to be 9-2 or better, I do know we lost some key individuals on defense last year although I haven't had time to keep up with their replacements. 1) We have to have better QB play. 2) We have to not give up the big play on defense like we did last year. 3) Will the coaching staff be able to gel and get things done their first year? I do think all of this is very possible, we have talent but talent alone won't get it done. I do think we could geaux 9-2 or better but it won't be as easy as some make it out to be.
Who cares if we are over-whelming? As long as we win, I am happy 10-9 wins over everyone is fine by me
Oh man, I'm not sure my heart can take it. Last year was rough, what with the way we let inferior teams hang around. Don't get me wrong, if we go 13-0 winning that way, I'll be a happy man. But it sure would be nice to blow Ole Miss out so that they know they're highest quality is still second tier.
Yeah, I'm with you two. I just shake my head everytime I see these posts about us mowing every down and how we are definitely gonna win our second national title in 3 years. I love being optimistic, but I also like being realistic. Last year should have taught us a lesson about being too overconfident.
Probably because the CNN crowd in Atlanta are saying the Alabama is going to win the SEC West and will be an underdog coming into the Georgia Dome for the SECCG. A sad commentary on how the media reacts after they start to believe their own BS.
