i watch about 100 football games a weekend usually and I consider myself a semi-educated fan. That fake punt from the endzone may be the dumbest call i've ever witnessed in my life. my entire concentration on the game was gone after that play. for one i couldnt believe we had a coach at LSU dumb enough to make that call. secondly, i wondered if he had either huge cajones or if simply he was certifiably insane. I think that play is inexcusable on any level. I think our HC is more than likely insane. Less Smiles for me minus the phat W.
It was a stupid call. I mean how many times you see a play like that botched up, even if the dude is wide ass open? But the play call by ASU where the punt was blocked was even more stupid, at the juncture of the game. It was a designed play in which it appears the punter was supposed to run around end for the first down, but when he saw that he had no chance he tried to punt it. Unless I just saw the play wrong.
i loved it, it was like a game of madden. take some risks, stir some **** up, thats football bitches!
From what I heard on the post-game show, they said they're not sure that play was actually called, or if they just improvised it at the last second. Either way, you are right. It was a bone-headed stunt, but DAMN I love it when it happens and they pull it off... that was almost as insane as the game against Auburn a few years back when LSU started the game with an on-side kick and recovered it..... I'd have cussed them for weeks had it not worked out on either of those plays...
haha, my friends who were with me in jersey (high school buddies from baton rouge/lsu) loved it. one of my pals quickly declared les miles to be his favorite most ballsy coach of all time. again, man i just love risk-taking. do something crazy, keep em guessing, thats what i'm talking about.
The fake punt was really f-in dumb. It was more Tubervillian than even Tuberville could pull. That play call gives more insight into Les Miles coaching smarts than anything he's said or done since coming here. That play will cost a team 3 games for every 1 it wins. Between that call and Pelini's non-existent coaching talent I fear it will be a dark few years in Tiger town.
yes it looked like an option. That poor punter had no shot but yes it was designed. Poor punter didnt even get the ball yet his only move was to try and get roughed and hope to get it off in time. neither happened except he got roughed. lol hester destroyed him. thats a dream come true for special teamer. to kill a 150 lb punter at full speed. im all for taking risks and gutsy calls but being in your own endzone on your first possession is completely asinine. this will make for an interesting year with this whacko coaching. i still like him oddly enough. I got the feeling he has skip bertman's horseshoes up his ass and isnt even aware of it.
