QUOTE=r_bear42 However, the comments made by that ESPN commentator were totally out of line and provided no added benefit to the comentary concerning the play on the field. So you believe they should not comment about anything other than football during a telecast and that has to be limited to the play on the field? I disagree. Had the commentator done his homework prior to the game he would have seen a complete turn around in the defensive scheme played against Vandy and Miss. State and what we witnessed against Arizona State and in the second half against Tenn. I think the judgement on the value of this coaching staffing is yet to be determined. But based on the turn around in defensive scheme over the past two weeks perhaps some criticism of the coaching staff has attributed to some positive benefit. JMO Again, he was not commenting on the fans who had questions and/or concerns about things, he was commneting on the fans that he believes have gone overboard, those that wanted the coaches fired after winning the first game and again after losing the second game. and he was right oin with his comments in my opinion.
"Its all about the USC homers, the media doesn't like schools from the south. They only like schools from the north such as ND, USC, etc. Its gotta go back to the red state blue state thing or maybe the civil war, sure seems that way." --------------------------------------------------- I'm sorry, SD, but this is the most paranoid thing I have ever read. Did you see Alabama on the cover of this week's Sports Illustrated? Do you really go to sleep at night thinking the media is out to get southern football? The SEC has an exclusive contract with CBS that shows the ENTIRE country our games. If we want to branch out from football, I'm pretty sure you'd agree that UNC and Duke basketball get juuuuust a little bit of attention as well. USC (which is not in the north, as you have stated) has had the most impressive run in a generation, the most exciting RB maybe since Barry Sanders and watching them (if you give it a try) is a chance to see some of the most skilled 18-23 year-olds you can imagine. I do agree that ND gets mileage from past accomplishments, but I will never understand some Tiger fans' fixation with a team we haven't even played in 20 years (SC).
it's all about market my man. USC is in LA which is one of the largest media markets in the US along with NY. Fact is people like a winner with a name. Nobody was doing back flips in the years Colorado and Washington won National Championships....who famous went there? USC had the Juice, a previous dynasty in the 70s, they are the LA team. Notre Dame had Rudy, the 4 Horsemen, Touchdown Jesus. Bama had the Bear. Why do you think Auburn got shafted last year? All they had was Bo Jackson. buy into this conspiracy theory.....
I was disturbed by the announcer comments as well, but for different reasons: 1. I do not think that things that took place two weeks ago (bus incident at the Tennessee game) had anything to do with the game being played at Vanderbilt. 2. Likewise, I do not think that fans' criticism of the coaches had anything to do with the action on the field. ESPN has unlimited airtime on its network. It has a variety of programs that discuss the dirty laundry aspects of sports. Those shows can criticize fans without restriction. During the Vanderbilt game, unprofessional announcers took the easy opportunity to take up air time gossiping rather than call the action for people who wanted to see a football game.
That can't be Ramah, it isn't in his usual style. I think either the Saudi's arrested him and are using his name to get information for when they invade. Or maybe he sold his name to his bookies to clear up his debt. Hmm it makes one wonder.
I think you are wrong. Let me ask a few questions then and see what you thought. 1) Can you agree that the defense in the ASU game and 2nd half of UT was terrible? 2) Do you agree that the soft zone that Pelini asked for was a bad decision and that he failed to make adjustments? 3) Don't you think it was a bad move for Les to send out the kicking team with 10 seconds left in the UT game 2nd qtr, when spiking the ball would've been the correct decision? 4) Do you think it was utterly insane for Les to try and call a time out after LSU intercepts the ball? These are easy questions with really obvious answers. It all played out on national TV and doesn't take a brilliant coach to figure out. To answer these questions you don't have to know what players may have been disciplined, you don't need insider knowledge of personnel, and you don't have to be an experienced coach to understand that the play calling on defense and the lack of adjustments in game time were non-existent. If you don't give a rat's ass about intelligent critique on the coaching staff at LSU then don't read it. I understand that you may have a problem with those that call for a coaches head after 2 games and those that go to the extreme and name call etc, but I don't believe there is anything wrong with critiquing a coach, especially when the display was as bad as it was in the 1st 2 games.
