about penalties and turnovers? its not like this is the first time it happened. im of the belief he is finally over the pressure he felt initially and slightly overwhelmed and is just now truly coaching his way. last week's coaches show was a complete 180 from all prior. he was fiery and emotional which is definitely who he is as a coach and person. he even answered a question about an injury. that was a first. some coaches fizzle after a great start. maybe les will slowly develop into something special. good people surround themselves with better people and he certainly seems he has a good staff which he put his ego aside to hire.
I think Miles just knows that Auburn has a good enough team to probably beat Alabama. 5 turnovers and several penalties won't cut it this weekend.
why would miles care if AU can beat Bama and was it not just as important for the other games? he certainly didnt foresee winning a game vs UF with a -5 TO margin and 12 penalties.
I was wondering the same thing...... I said last week as well, that if we had 5 turnovers against UF there is no way we win.....I was wrong, but don't want to try that again.
I think Miles is "suddenly" feeling more comfortable here at LSU in expressing himself to the media etc. I don't think he all of a sudden decides to be upset about penalties & turnovers - he's been upset, but wasn't very open with the media initially. I expect Miles to stay fairly guarded with personnel (sp?) issues throughout his tenure, but I have no doubt that he will continue to gradually be more open with the media. Also, he might have thought that it was attributed to everything around the beginning of the season at first, but has come to see that it's more of an epedimic this season. I do agree, however, that he wasn't coaching his type of football to begin the season - he was slightly overwhelmed & trying to feel his way around a tough situation with him taking over behind God Saban. I think he was maybe in a, "we can't lose" mode to start the season because of the expectations, and after the loss he was able to kind of get thigns together.
From my point of view, this is a game between the two top contenders for the SEC West this year. I suspect that Miles figures that there is absolutely no room for sloppy play this Saturday. I would agree with him.
I don't think he was suddenly upset, but upset because it sounds like this was an issue the team really worked on after the Vandy game and didn't get the results he wanted. I'm sure this week it will be addressed again, and if I were a coach that would have me upset......
Because being nice about it hasn't gotten anywhere? IMO, the first couple of games he didn't press so hard because he knew he had a talented group of guys distracted by Katrina. The next game he knew he had a group of talented guys who were just starting to get back into the groove. Now when Katrina is pretty much behind them and they've had a couple weeks of establishing a routine he sees that maybe 1) either the storm's resulting confusion wasn't the problem to begin with or 2) the team is letting the storm and resulting confusion linger in the lockeroom longer than they should. With the meat of the schedule upon them it's just time to try something different than what he's been doing and wake these guys up before they make a mistake that costs them big. When what you're doing doesn't work, try something different. It's a philosophy that seemed to have worked for Bo Pellini this year.
