Seriously, other than LSU beating Bama, there is nothing I'd like more than

to see South Carolina beat Florida. I don't even like USC or hate Florida all that much, but I do like Spurrier - and how entertaining would it be to see that happen? Man, if that goes down you are going to see a meltdown at the Florida sites and a love fest in the media - to go along with some 'gentle' ribbing by the ole bawl coach.

    Oh yea, LSU wins 26-20.

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum; for this reason. When USC hired Holtz all you could hear was "South Carolina is going to win the SEC in 3 years."

It's funny how hindsight works. When Holtz was hired a guy I was doing some work for ask me if I'd rather have DuBose or Holtz. I said, neither one. But, that didn't satisfy him at all so finally I said DuBose because he'll have Bama in a SECCG before Holtz...in fact, Holtz won't even be able to get a whiff of what it smells like. I went on to tell him how every school Holtz left (with the exception of one) had a run in with NCAA when he left and he hasn't, nor will be, able to maintain discipline. Well, right on two ends...little did I realize what would transpire with the boosters. But, I digress.

South Carolina fans have to be categorized in a league of their own. Just a glimmer of hope, and they are talking NC's. Quite frankly, I don't want to be subjected to listening to SECCG hopes from the Gamecocks from Jan to Sept of next season.

:rofl::rofl::rofl: I don't think I've ever met a South Carolina fan before, but this characterization of them is absolutely hysterical!!

Spurrier is my favorite coach ever...and it's not even close. I'd LOVE to see him smack down Urban Myth & Co.

Since South Carolina--a team LSU does not play this season---beating Florida---a team LSU did play---hurts LSU's schedule strength, I have to go for Florida.

I'd otherwise pull for ol ball coach if not for this fact. The only thing Urban is renewing in Gainsville is a replay of Ron Zook-like results...LOL.

On a serious note (because tailgating is a serious subject) it is the worst venue for a game I've ever attended. We took the RV to the game and had a great time, don't get me wrong. But, we were in the middle of what appeared to be a livestock holding facility. Pig pens to one side, cows to the other...in the middle of what they call their "state fair" grounds.

On another note, Williams Brice Stadium is one of the nicest stadiums in the SEC simply because of its age.

I know I'll get categorized as one of the arrogant Bama fans with this statement...but one of the funniest things I saw in the stadium was a banner celebrating a conference championship from the early 60's...the only banner, mind you.

Did you know, there are only two teams that have never been awarded a NC by any publication in football? Mississippi State and South Carolina. To this date, I've yet to understand the reasoning they were invited into the SEC. I realize, FSU, Miami and a few others turned down the invite...but still, South Carolina?

South Carolina. A school without a fight song, a school who's claim to fame is a movie sound track from last century, a school with an infatuation with phallic symbols.

Yea that's a tough one, but since we have no shot at 1/2..and no matter where we end up in the rankings we'll be at SugarBowl if we win seccg, I'm going to pull for USC even if it hurts our sos.

Good post. I didn't realize that FSU and Miami turned us down. I guess they were worried about what would happen to their records if they had to play an SEC schedule every year.

Arkansas is the one that dumbfounds me. They are not close to anyone in the conference geographically. There campus is not even close to a major interstate. It's hard to consider a school in the same division a rival if they are not a day trip away.

    Thoughts?

When talk turns to who the Big Ten should add as our 12th team, there is always strong support to add Missouri... with part of the discussion being that our "lost child" Arkansas could then return to its old rivalries in the Big 12... that would allow the SEC to go get Georgia Tech or someone like them... and allow the ACC to add Rutgers.

Arkansas does seem to be a better fit for the Big 12, not only georgraphically but based on some good series historically with schools like Texas.

As to the reason they were invited? I can't say for sure, just speculate. We all know what a money-hungry commish Roy Kramer was during his tenure, right?

While a lot of people don't care for Frank Broyles, Arkansas' Ath. Director, if there is one thing he can do is manage the Athletic Department. Their program is consistantly at the top of the SEC when it comes to profit margins. It was either 2003 or 04 that they were the most profitable Ath. Dept. in the SEC.

The last report from the SEC about profits had the bottom 3 as South Carolina, Ole' Miss and Mississippi State. South Carolina, despite the following they have in football (IE: sellouts) only managed to stay in the black by 500K. That may seem like a large figure except when you compare it to the "big boys" who year in and year out in in the double digits when it comes to profit. (Despite losing bowl revenues due to sanctions Alabama still had a profit in the double digits while in the middle of a 100million + dollar renovation/expansion phase.)

A question. Besides Arkansas, who would you have added to the West division that is closer and is a legit Div. 1 team?

Personally, I was hoping Ga. Tech would make the jump back to give the SEC another team in Georgia and capture the Atl. TV market. ($$$) Other than Tech, another team from Florida would have been a coup.
