If it was never evident to anyone before tonight,

and there werent many of you, you now know why Russell is the starters. He simply can make throws no other QB on our roster can make.

He makes throws that very few in the NCAA can make.

i kinda think he's a freak of nature, it seems like when he throws it he doesn't have to square up or anything he just flicks his wrist and the ball goes 40 yards

he is much better on an ad-lib than in a system. When he gets a mind for throwing in a system then he will be great... When does he make his best throws? when he has to roll out a bit and it turns into backyard ball... He often misses open receivers and throws the ball to low much of the time... I think a way to play off of this is to roll the pocket... move his feet to make his mind feel like he is on the run, in one of those improv situations..

A lot of times when he breaks the play out and ad libs, the WRs come much more open, so the throw has a greater margin for error...therefore reducing the pressure of the throw. Besides that, as you pointed out, that kind of throw is a gut instinct, backyard type throw..and we know he's got the gifts. He made some beautiful pocket passes 2nite though...right on the money and with deft touch.

he did make two very good throws standing in the pocket last night though. i'm very curious about some of the routs the receivers are running because it seems like most throws to davis are low, most to skyler are usually behind him and for the most part the passes to bowe, doucet bennie seem to be more on target. a lot of times you see russell throw before the receiver makes his break so i wonder if there is some problems with the way the routs are run. it also seemed like russell's arm was bothering him last night because he kept swinging his arm like he was trying to work something out.
