LSU, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and Arkansas all in the top 15. Georgia showed today that they are still a team to be reckoned with. Now South Carolina showing the same thing versus Florida. Alabama is definitely no walkover. 8 teams deep. Even Vandy, Kentucky and MSU have had huge upset victories this year. Damn, this conference is awesome.
It'll be interesting to see if the SEC can indeed get 9 teams in bowl games this year...wonder if any conference has done that before
In some respects winning the SEC championship is close to, if not as good as, winning the national championship as far as accomplishments go. With the way things are, a bowl system and no playoffs, the SEC champ does not usually get a shot at the NC.
I think a team like the 2001 Tennessee team who was going to get a chance at the NC but lost to an underdog LSU team is more the reason an SEC team won't get to the NC title game. The same thing may happen to Florida this year.
I don't think Florida would want to see LSU again. I sure would like a do over on that game.:geauxtige

Tough info to find - According to this post from a random message board in 2004 - "The SEC sent a NCAA record 8 teams to post-season bowl games in 1998, matched that record in 1999 and then established a new record for a conference with 9 bowl teams in 2000. From 1997-2004 the Southeastern Conference sent 59 teams to post-season bowl games, the most of any conference in the nation. Eleven of the SEC�s twelve teams have been to post-season bowls in the last six seasons."
