go back thru the BCS rankings (since it started in 1998) and find an SEC Champion that didn't finish in the top 10.

You think Georgia Tech, who would end up at #19 in the polls at best even after a win over Wake Forest, deserves to be in over Louisville or Wisconsin?

    It's a great system, isn't it?

Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean that it can't happen. LSU and Auburn both lose 2 conference games next year. LSU has the tiebreaker over AU because we beat them. However, we also had a very bad out of conference loss. That makes us 9-3 going into the SEC title game. We are likely ranked somewhere near 15. It is possible that we could win the title game and still be ranked outside the top 10...thus not going to a BCS game.

in 2001 we had 3 conferences losses yet won the SECCG, we finished the year in the top 10, around #7 or #8. If you lose 3 games in the SEC, there is no doubt you will stil be in the top 15 if you end up winning the SECCG.

That's my point, even with 3 losses, we finished in the top 10 in the BCS.

The SEC CG would give you such a big jump, you're pretty much guaranteed to be in the top 10. A 4 loss SEC team doesn't deserve to go to a BCS bowl game if they are out of the top 10.

You are missing my point. We're playing an assumption game. Let's ASSUME (and it certainly isn't out of the question) that a 3 loss LSU team wins the SEC but finishes outside the Top 10. Note that 2 of the 3 losses in this hypo are to bad teams...let's say Ole Miss and UAB. The third loss is to Florida. Would you, as an LSU fan, be incredibly angry if we were left out of the BCS? I know I would.

Well if you lose to UAB and Ole Miss, you don't deserve to be in a BCS bowl game.

My system still works. The best teams play!

I agree, but imagine the "sky is falling" attitudes that SEC fans would have if their champion didn't make it to the BCS. Major conference champions will NEVER be excluded from the BCS bowls.

Definitely don't think so and I didn't mean it was a stance I take but have heard it in relation to teams in the contention of a BCS invitation... never in regards to a #22 ranked team. You are too dam thorough!! :thumb:

PURPLE TIGER HOPE is not a strategy!

It's actually quite simple and we don't need a playoff sytem to determine the champion.

Here's how it works. The SEC Champion receives an automatic bid to the BCS Championship. If both SEC teams are undefeated prior to the SEC Championship, then the game will be designated as the BCS Championship. If not, all the rest of the teams in the country can battle it out to determine the other opponent. :hihi:

The east coast versus west coast media bias can argue all year about which team is truly #2. :thumb:
