I never said video. But I can take a blackberry and post live updates on TF if I wanted to. Should I be kicked out for that? We do it all the time from our living rooms. Is that any different?
I completely understand what he was doing, do you? He had a press credential. They revoked his press credential. Are you saying LSU does not have a right to issue press credentials and revoke them?
Read the article. He had press credentials. I agree it's a fine line and don't see the harm of live blogging. But it's not a first amendment issue to decide who gets press credentials. The NCAA and schools regularly do that.
I understand he had credentials and that is why he got the boot. But if it's not OK for him to do it, it shouldn't be OK for ANYBODY to do it for the same reasons. That's the bigger issue. When will they start ejecting fans for doing the same thing this guy did? Next time the guy should just buy a ticket and leave his press credentials at the gate.
I want to say it is an AT&T commercial. You may have seen it. A ballgame with the info coming from the TV, a laptop, phone, etc.? If you look at Yahoo with their broadcast of games and then put it in the realm of the iphone what's to keep a cell/video phone from feeding practically live updates from games? I've seen discussions about copyright laws for years...and it only gets deeper.
That's the new technology era we live in. Don't know what the answer is or will be, but I do think Skip would try to shut down anything that he thinks is costing him a penny in revenue. Would a fan choose a free live blogger in Tiger Stadium over listening on a radio or purchasing the Geaux Zone? Seems far fetched to me, but I guess it could happen. It's all about them controlling the almighty dollar.
I'd like to get clair's opinion on this, but he can't post on here because of a similar issue... traditional media hates the internet. Why should I watch the 10:00 news or read the morning paper when 99.99% of the information was posted on the internet hours before hand? I have a problem with the NCAA revoking this reports press credentials because of how he chose to do his job.
Its just like ESPN radio. Those guys have a wall covered in TV monitors in front of them, with EVERY sporting event in the country/world being broadcast live to them. But the guys doing the radio show CAN NOT give live play by play. All they can really do is give you the score, and a couple of vague stats, like Manny is 2 for 3 with 4 RBI. They can't tell ou the ball is in the air over the Green Monster for a Grand Slam, until some time (not sure exactly how long) after it is said and done, because a lot of people paid a lot of money for the rights to give you that info "live".
