Good post, and Miles made no bones about it in the press conference the other day. :thumb: At first glance what he said about our schedule may sound weak, and personally, I'd like to see a little upgrade in our OOC scheduling and think adding a game like VT is a step in the right direction but, hey, it's working- UF, LSU, and Auburn all finished in the top 10- an NC title and a #3 ranking, at that.
Verge mentioned that he almost had a deal in place w/ a very good BCS team, but they wanted to do a home and home 2008 and 2009 (while LSU wanted 2008 and 2010). Could be a coincidence, but look who just signed a 2008-2009 home and home w/ Auburn. Auburn to visit West Virginia in 2008, host in 2009 Nicely done, Aubie. Should be a fun matchup.
Agree and they better represent and not go screw up our SOS- in the eyes of the media/college football fans- by dropping that one. :thumb:
Yeah, our schedule is already in place for 2009. The Tulane series will make it even more difficult to schedule these home/away games since we aren't going to give up another home game in those years we play in New Orleans. Just one more excuse for Verge to give us.
Re: That sounds a bit strange? All "big" schools do out of conference home and home series (one game at each school), unless the circumstances are odd (e.g., a team pulls out of a game w/ little notice and "big" school needs to fill a one-shot game ASAP). I interpret the article to mean that Verge has home dates available in 2008 and 2010. He can always fill these games w/ a "small" school in search of a fat payday, or he can strike a home and home deal w/ a "big" school. He doesn't want to do a deal for 2008 that has LSU on the road in the return game in 2009, given LSU's road-intensive SEC schedule, so he's trying to find one who'll postpone the return game until at least 2010. As for 2010, I suspect it's the same deal---postpone return until 2012. Personally, I'd like to see the SEC expand conference games from 8 to 9. Make things a bit easier, IMO, from a scheduling standpoint as you'd only have 3 out of conf games each year instead of 4.
Re: That sounds a bit strange? I would rather not play another team from the east every year. Can we just play the cowbells twice?
Since 1980, you could "blame" that on 3 PAC-10 schools taveling down south without getting a return trip. Cal played 4 games against SEC all on road(ok 1 was neutral but still in Florida) Oregon St. has been t Baton Rouge 4 times with no SEC home games Washington St. 6 road (5 at Tennessee) no homes.
The point isn't about blame. It was to dismiss the concept that Pac10 schools don't want to pick up the phone cause they are afraid. Or there are other schools like Ole Piss that have NEVER played a Pac10 school.
Re: That sounds a bit strange? That would be nice, I wish they would too. What I'd really like to see is to have a conference re-alignment and give two of them the boot and play every team in our conference, with 2 OOC games. Won't happen though, it'd mean fewer home games- 5 one year and 4 the next, plus two OOC. Not to mention the SECCG is $$$. Which two would get the boot?? Miss. St. and Vandy? One team per State is enough, except Alabama and Auburn- Bama's tradition is too huge, and, with Auburn, Nootch wouldn't be able to see his team play......where ya at beyotch?? :hihi:
Re: That sounds a bit strange? This coming from a guy calling himself a tiga, but has been sucking up to the PAC-10 all off season.
