While I appreciate this type of response the students need to realize if they keep upping the ante they will only lose more. They cannot win agaisnt LSU and it will only result in more sanctions against student till it gets out of control and they lose their tickets altogether. I just hope they realize this before it's too late but sadly looking at the facebook group I think the idiots will only make it worse.
Right, but what I got out of the last thread about this was that the students don't care. The non-students are the ones that suffer. In proving their point, the students will go to far lengths, even if it's losing songs. I don't think LSU can punish all the students for doing this because not all of them are. And heck, i bet some of the other non-students were doing it too. It's impossible to regulate these kinds of things, that's why we need fellow respected students (football players, newspaper editors,) to step up because the last thing the students want is some random administrative figure telling them what to do.
Probably correct but the University can find plenty that they do care about. Compiling infractions and laying down the law is not that difficult. Look to your various frats for examples. Eventually they all have to walk a line or at least appear to walk it. Again, probably correct that they may not all be students, but LSU absolutely can punish all of the students, including the ones not participating. Everybody is brave in the herd until the first hundred or so get shot. It won't take long before an overbearing loss of privileges at a game inspire some self policing. This seems like an entirely reasonable solution and if you were dealing with only TAF members, it would undoubtedly work. However we are not dealing with that demographic, but rather one that is as narcissistic as a bunch of 3 year olds. Their only point is to stick it to the man. I can appreciate that as my childhood is not a faded memory, but the reality is that the man, will stick it to them eventually.
Yep, the only way to crack down on this is having the students police themselves. I don't agree with threatening to ban them from home games, but I've got no problem with the university threatening to pull the student body's option to purchase road/post season tickets. That might get their attention.
I think the most obvious way around this is to have the Tiger Band just not play during the games and have them sit there. Seriously, these are frikkin students, and everyone gets their panties in a wad because they are chanting "you suck" after LSU scores a TD? Big deal, sounds like every other student section in the country. What do you want them to do? Have them all scream in unison to the opposing team "Sorry we scored, but welcome to Tiger Stadium, we hope you like it! Let's all be friends!"? They'll just find another way to curse during the game when the band plays, pretty soon the band will only be there for pregame and halftime.
The chant done repeatedly was "you suck cock". In addition to "F*** You Spurrier" being done once on national tv.
The students will get more respect when they start earning it. Reward and punishment as consequences for one's actions works on every age group. Meanwhile they act like children and get treated as such . . . and respected only as such.
