Mainly because he was one HELL a coach...............He also used a phycological ploy that I think a lot of coaches today should use. He would be talking about the game as the replay showed. Maybe the play was with Paul Ott carrying the ball. Then he would say something like, "I saw Paul Ott's Dad there at the game. Good to see him." Tell me Mom and Dad don't like to hear that.!! Usually he would follow that up with a "they're good folks. How can you not love that? He had a 30 minute replay show every Sun? They replayed the game, as he ate chips (Lays?) and drank a Coke (might have been spiked, who knows?) He would say things like if we had done this or that. But he often complimented the player from the other team. The BEAR was sharp, no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!

    Annndddd Bingo!

Hell, my fat self would be hitting up the golden flake.

The guy was smart as hell. He had the media in his back pocket and in those days that was all you needed. I would have payed a lot of money to be in that basement for some of those nights.

Only Namath would disagree...And yes, I was forced to watch these as a kid.

Does Bama still play that unintelligible Bear sound clip before home games? I have always found that to be one of the most pathetic pre-game rituals in the SEC.
