1. Re: Saban open to talks with LSU

But I got an email stating he would... :rolleye33: We will see what happens by Wednesday. It don't matter to me I just want the best coach available, and we need to let Lombardi do his job. He has made successful hires everywhere he has been so far. By the way, is there a game this weekend.

  2. Re: A great blog pertaining to Les Miles(overall evaluation)

So it seems our recruiting classes haven't been as top notch as we thought... Haven't we been at the top of the recruiting ratings for a while? Why doesn't our starting roster reflect that? Are we recruting too many falsely high-rated players that don't pan out?

If we are indeed average in relation to SEC recruiting, or at least average in the talent on the field, then Miles is doing a good job playing slightly better than even against most SEC competition and perhaps not as good a job recruiting as we've thought.
  3. Re: Coach Miles tells recruit he's staying at LSU

    Yep.
  4. Fish- I was under the impression that tubbs had been at auburn for 7+ years (obviously i am wrong about that), but what I am seeing on lots of posts is that the lsu fans want the next coach to be one that is committed to being at lsu for the long haul. i just think that given tubbs' age, the lsu job would be ideal for him. he could own recruiting within the state, have the best possible facilities, not to mention he would be stepping into a team loaded with talent. Now, i am not a huge tubbs fan, because he is at auburn and i pull for lsu, but i think we have as much chance of getting him as we do someone else. i also look at it like this: do i want a coach from another conference, say the pac 10, big 10? or would i prefer a coach from the sec, who has been proven a winner in the sec, who knows how to win in the sec? i think tubbs would be a good fit for lsu, and i think the lsu job is an upgrade from r-kansas. i have no basis for thinking tubbs is even interested in the lsu job, but, if he is talking to r-kansas, then i fell like at some level he has to be talking to lsu as well.
  5. Re: Saban open to talks with LSU

Saban coming back to LSU isn't going to happen. Saban and family may prefer LSU to Bama, but I don't see this coming back at all. It would yet tarnish his image even further.

Also, I don't think LSU and fans would be as eager for him to come back. Now if he was still at Miami and wanted to come back, I think fans and LSU would want him. But the fact he went to another school in our division and 1 yr later wants to come back to LSU. I think that has turned fans against him.

I'm mixed on whether I would want him back. Yes he is a good coach and I liked his defense, but he also lost games he shouldn't have lost. Also, I don't know if I want a coach that can't comment to anything. But on the flip side if he did want to come back you know he would have the intentions of being here for a long time because it would be obvious that he like LSU.

    However,
I don't give a crap what he does. We have a tough SECCG tomm and I want an SEC title. Geaux Tigers.
  6. Re: Saban open to talks with LSU

    :hihi:
  7. Apparently, Miles spoke to the players and said he would be with them at the bowl game, and told them that he was talking to Michigan after the SECCG. Some on the team took that for Miles letting them know he was gone. I think that's true that he is gone, as I don't think Michigan would publicly ask to interview him unless they were going to offer, or Miles agreeing without there being an understanding in place. But he didn't say he was going to Michigan outright.

This will be an interesting week.
  8. Re: Coach Miles tells recruit he's staying at LSU

Michigan has not officially offered him yet, so of course he plans on staying for many years UNLESS they officially offer him a contract. That's just Glenn G. trying to stir it up some. If Michigan offers him, I seriously doubt that he will stay. Hopefully LSU is rounding up their candidates now.
  9. That scenario makes sense.

The only skepticism I would have is the part about being with the team for the bowl game.
  10. Re: A great blog pertaining to Les Miles(overall evaluation)

I agree that Miles could do better with game management. I personally don't consider that "bashing." We can all cite instances where he has not managed the game as well as some other coaches could/would. I believe this falls under the category "No one is perfect."

As far as the recruiting classes.... I am no expert on recruiting, but I beleive that, depending on the source, LSU's recruiting classes have consistently been in the top ten for the past five or six years. However, if you check the record, Michigan, tOSU, USC and Florida, Georgia and Auburn have all also been consistently in the top ten. The point is not that LSU has not had good recruiting classes... we have. The point is that we are not the ONLY school to have good recruiting classes.

There is a reason why these schools have been in the top ten in the polls just about every year... its because they recruit well and have good head coaches who have brought in good coaching staffs. All of these schools also have good facilities. So, in any one year there are at least three, and this year as many as seven, teams that have a legitimate shot at the championship... any one of which can beat the others on any particular day. To get to the championship game requires a combination of players, coaches, scheduling AND luck. If you don't think luck is involved, just remember that the only reason LSU got to the championship game in '03 is because USM beat Cal on the last weekend in a game that was postponed from the first game of the season because of a hurricane. If Saban hadn't won that championship, my guess is that he would still be considered a good coach but certainly not ranked as highly as he is now.

From a statistical standpoint, if LSU plays in an SEC championship game every three to five years and plays for the national championship every ten years, we are doing very well. And if you don't think that's true, how many teams have played in the BCS championship game more than once?:geaux:
