The game will be played on the field by the players. Whoever wants it the most will win. Whatever anyone else says is just talk. I can't wait to watch the game. :geauxtige
There is nothing to get riled up about: 1. That article is an opinion piece written by Tim Dahlberg, one of the most respected boxing writers in the world. Dahlberg has covered about 300 title fights and 2,000 Olympic amateur bouts over the last 25 years. Who cares what a boxing expert thinks of college football? While his opinion of college football might be interesting to some, its nothing to get riled up about. 2. If you paid attention to what Dahlberg was trying to say in his article, his point was not to say who should be in the NC game. Instead, his point was that he thinks the whole idea of a NC game without tournament is retarded. That's it. That was his whole point. 3. Finally, you have to consider Dahlberg's bias here. Dahlberg has devoted his entire life to covering boxing. However, the glory days of boxing are over (Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Riddick Bowe, etc). Like Dahlberg whined in an article he wrote in 2004: Boxing, a sport that allows four men to call themselves heavyweight champion, none of whom would be recognized if they walked through Times Square in New York. Hint: One is a 6-foot-7 Ukrainian who speaks four languages and has two advanced college degrees. Point is, college football is still a very popular sport, while boxing is not. Dahlberg may wish that "Dance War" on ABC might be more interesting to viewers than the #1 OSU vs. #2 LSU game on FOX, and Dahlberg may wish that "the ratings for the title game will probably reflect that." But the truth is that Dahlberg is deluding himself. Also, Dahlberg's jealousy of the popularity of college football can be seen in how the point of his whole article is to trash college football because we don't have a tournament to decide our champion. But neither does boxing. Also, at least college football only has two leading championship-awarding organizations -- the AP and the AFCA (Coaches). Boxing has four leading championship-awarding organizations -- WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO. Tim Dahlberg
Short-sighted? That's my only guess. I can only imagine they were thinking about WVU vs Pitt and OU vs Mizzuo and made their judgements based on that. Who knows?
I know tOSU is the underdog......I, more than most LSU fans have seen Ohio State play football this year and I know how good of a team they are. I have never bought into the SEC speed thing and I know OSU will be ready. I hope the Tiger fans in BR and NO are not taking this OSU team lightly. I am sure the players and coaches for LSU are not. :LSU231:
That's what's crazy about the media...There were 4 BCS games, 2 won big time by favorites and 2 won by underdogs (both were in the top 10)...When the two favorites won, they started saying that they're the best teams out there and should've been playing for the NC, or share the title...When the 2 underdogs won, they say that it was thanks to them....That's all hogwash and like Terry said "trying to make the news instead of reporting it" There's no losing for them, it's always a win-win situation even when they're wrong.
who cares what the naysayers, second guessers and all the rest say, we're going to the ship, and if we win, we're the national champs, and nothing any of the naysayers can say to do anything about it. Granny Holtz will make excuses, Musburger will keep blowing USC and Carroll, the Gumps will keep running down Coach Miles and giving Nick (I"ll always be a Tiger) Saban all the credit. But it won't change anything, so screw em, they can't rain on my parade!!!
I am a little worried about that as well, but then I remembered that OU had a chip on it's shoulder because of how the Fiesta Bowl turned out for them last year. I think we'll be fine. LSU will have the emotion of the crowd on it's side, so I think we'll be able to match OSU's intensity.
OU losing the Fiesta Bowl to a team that needed 3 miracles to pull off an absolutely unbelievable 43-42 OT win is nothing like OSU getting absolutely humiliated in the BCS National Championship game 41-14. The phrase "chip on his shoulder" means having a harbored grievance or sense of inferiority. I can't see how OU went through this season with a sense of inferiority anything like Ohio State did. Regardless, I was much, much more worried about OSU's mental advantage two weeks ago. Back then, the general tone, both here on TF and on the streets, was that OSU sucked and LSU was going to blow them out. Now, it seems that the general tone, both here on TF and on the streets, is that OSU is for real, and that this is going to be a close one. Not only is this important for our team, but its also important for our home field advantage. If Tiger fans went into the Superdome expecting a blow-out win by LSU, and OSU came out strong, the LSU crowd would be stunned. But if Tiger fans go into the Superdome expecting a close game, then nothing short of OSU blowing out LSU would stun the LSU crowd.
Wow, this really sounds like a presidential election with polls and all. I've seen many politicians being behind in the polls two weeks before the election and then virtually becoming even the eve of the election, and finally winning.
