Maybe not that game, but there are many cases of the top teams going down to inferior teams. The tournament doesn't do a good job of deciding a national champion. It crowns a tournament champion.
For a very long time I have wanted a 8 or 16 team playoff but now I want a 4 team playoff or plus 1 much like what is suggested by Stewart Mandel and many others. Part of me likes the current system. The every game counts, the upsets that ruin one teams dreams at the last second and sends a team from another conference to the ship. College football is at times random, frustrating even stupid. But it is always exciting. Yes I know the voters punish some teams more than others. I know that losing one game at the end of the season hurts you much more than one loss at the start of it. It's part of the game I love and hate. A 16 team playoff would take a some of that away. And be honest how many times have you wanted to see the number 5 ranked team in the ship unless it was LSU.
