http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/football/2005/2005_preseason_guide.pdf READ ABOUT THE NEW CLIPPING RULE FOR O-LINEMEN (Initial contact cannot be from behind or ever below the knees, or it's a foul) CELEBRATION FOULS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING FROM "LIST OF EXAMPLES :dis: Imitating a slash of the throat, resembling the firing of a weapon, bowing at the waist, punching one's chest excessively, crossing one's arms in front of the chest, placing one's hand by the ear to indicate one cannot hear the spectators, diving into the end zone when unchallenged by an opponent, entering the endzone with an unnatural stride (high stepping), going significantly beyond the end line to interact with spectators, standing over a prone player in a taunting manner, attempting to make the ball spin as if it were a top, performing a choreographed act with a teammate (photos, falling down together) AND ENTERING THE FIELD OF PLAY BY COACHES OR SUBS IN PROTEST OF OFFICIALS CALLS. (THAT MEANS EVEN 1 STEP) :dis: They left out cartwheels, the Funky Chicken and many other spontaneous acts. Look out for changes in 2006 :hihi: It is not a foul (LANDING ATOP A PLAYER AFTER LEAPING) if the player was lined up within one yard of the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped. REMEMBER HOW THE AUBURN GAME STOLEN FROM LSU LAST YEAR. :dis: They're finally cracking down on the "PULL & SHOOT" punt blocking maneuver! See the "substitution", "inducing false starts", "Launching fouls" & "contact away from the play" rules. No Player shall strike a runner with the crown of his helmet in an attempt to punish him (delete word intentionally). GENTLEMEN, THIS CAN INCLUDE A RB DELIBERATELY TRYING TO RUN DIRECTLY OVER AN OPPONENT (LINEBACKER, ETC) BY LOWERING HIS HEAD AND PLOWING/RAMMING INTO THE LINE (aka, Larry Czonka) I'M WAITING TO SEE HOW BADLY THEY ABUSE THIS ONE!!!:dis: New "deflected pass rule" limits touching by offense team players numbered 50-79 (It's a foul to touch/catch a deflected ball) New "Catch" rule allows any part of the body to land inside the field of play, even a single finger or the head. There's even a 15 question TEST at the end? Enjoy the read.
They might as well keep them from exposing any skin and only allow them to speak when spoken to. When did the NCAA begin its conversion into a Nazi regime? :dis: :usaflagwa
I think the change with the leaping rule is that player may not land on ANY player this year. I'm pretty sure leaping out.
After reading this over it looks like... if a defensive player is the one who deflects the pass it's up for grabs...as in anyone 50-79 could catch it. Now, if it hit an OL in the back, then it would be a penalty. Am I reading this wrong?
The rule change came as a result of what happened in the Auburn game. You may remember Saban was on the committee for Rules. The leap was almost vertical in the Auburn game. The new rule is intended for those teams that take a running start and vault or high jump to block kicks and land on others. Simply crowding the line and leaping (like LSU did) will not be penalized any longer! It's a good rule to clarify and prevent bad calls like the one last year!
Re: After reading this over it looks like... You're right, it can be caught by a lineman then, either behind or beyond the line if initially deflected by the opposing defense. Initial touching of the ball by a lineman, either beyond or behind the line will be penalized. Now, I'm still not sure if a QB drills a ball into his center's back while he's under pressure, if this constitutes "touching". That leads one to question whether touching is defined as "hand" contact. I'll try to find out the answer to this one. I'm almost sure that in this case, there won't be a penalty because it happens frequently and the lineman never sees the ball coming. Lastly, a lineman touching a ball deflected by his own receiver "to prevent an interception" would be a good "touch" as he'd rather take the penalty than give up an INT.
