All of the stats come from LSUSports.net. The attachment is a chart I prepraed comparing this year's team and the 2003 team six games, that is , half way through the regular season. Offense, rushing more, passing less. Our pass defense is better, run about the same.

Thanks for those stats, but I read them in a way that makes us look a good bit better than we were @ this point in '03. And we all know how good that team was.

2007: @Moo St; Va Tech; Mid Tenn; So Cal; @Tulame; Florida

I like how we are tracking with our 2003 Championship season. I'm curious to know what the difference in "time of possession" is. It's obvious our much stronger running game is giving us more ball control which leads to less passing on our part and keeps the ball away from our opponent. The more success we have running the ball opens up the big pass play. As long as Matt continues to manage the game and protect the ball I don't see how we can lose.

    Thanks for sharing! :thumb:

If LSU wins the NC this year, then yes, those teams could be compared, but right now, that 2003 team was unreal, but we'll see.

2003 Time of Possession After 6 Games

    LSU 193:32
    Opp 166:28

2007 Time of Possession After 6 Games

    Opp 163:34

As you can see, not a huge difference. Lets face it, this is Matt Flynn's first year as a starter and he is coming off an injury, not to mention Early being injured. Not suprised that our passing stats are less. I firmly believe our passing game will become more productive once Matt gets more comfortable, Early returns to health and our young receivers get more experience.

Things are pretty even, from where I sit.

At this point in the season, the 2007 running game is definitely better than 2003, but remember, that one only took off after they turned the duties over to Vincent and Broussard.

Losing Doucet really hurts. Imagine the 2003 team without Clayton.

I think the 2003 defense was maybe a hair better, but they are very similar.
