with redshirt junior Tahj Jones (6'2, 205) out for the season, true junior Luke Muncie (6'3, 210) stepped in as our new starting OLB "I feel like people are overlooking me because of the situation that happened with Tahj," Muncie said. "But I also feel like I have something to prove. This is LSU. When one person falls out, the next person in line is going to step up and take control. ... I’m trying hard. ... I’m being more talkative on the field with play calls. I’m being more of a leader in the film room." The most memorable play Muncie has made in his short time as a starter came after [highly-touted] Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught a first-quarter pass in the left flat Saturday and looked to turn upfield. Muncie...delivered a welcome-to-Death Valley smack that resulted in a 2-yard loss. Dworaczyk on Muncie: --“First time I got hit by him, I can remember going, ‘Man, that guy can bring the wood. He knows how to hit,’” offensive lineman Josh Dworaczyk said. --“He’s slowly progressed into what he is now,” Dworaczyk said. “I think he’s gotten more mature about the way he handles himself on and off the field.” --“Luke gets that reputation out there as a guy you don’t want to take softly,” Dworaczyk said. “You better be ready to take it on and better be ready to take a hit. I’ve been playing offensive line for a long time, and I’m telling you, Luke Muncie hits like an SEC linebacker. Like some of the best.” Les on Muncie: --“I think Muncie’s doing really well,” Miles said. “I think he continues to improve, and that’s what he has to do.” Advocate: LSU’s Muncie comfortable in starting role http://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/3872268-123/lsu-linebacker-luke-muncie-comfortable
Good praise from Dworaczyk on him. You know its good when a veteran gives you praise like that. Hope he keeps improving and playing with that fire. We are going to need him.
With all the question marks around our linebackers this year I have been very interested in seeing how this group would respond. Although we haven't exactly faced the toughest competition through our first couple of games, my confidence has increased a great deal. In particular I have been impressed with Muncie's play. When the play ends and players get out of the pile he is usually in there somewhere. I enjoy the way he flies to the ball and I can see why Dworaczyk made his comments. Muncie is looking to hit someone on every play. And you have to like a guy with a bit of a chip on his shoulder ...
