Don’t want to sound negative over here but these are things LSU needs to capitalize on. :geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige
That is for sure!!!! Winning the turnover battle 4-0, having a defensive score and special teams score should equate to a 3 or 4 TD victory over an inferior (on paper) opponent! At least the turnovers prevented them from scoring on those drives.:geaux:
It's not exactly like MSU sucked total balls. They might no win a lot of games this year... but their not being rediculously blown out either, the Auburn game was a route, but MSU played them pretty tight at times. Their scrappin out games... giving themselves the chance to win... but in the end on saturday our athletes won the battle. Which is fine by me... as long as we win. But we have got to capitalize on INTs and fumbles. Those are free gimme drives that need to result in points, not just eat clock time. I like ability to create turnovers with this defense, and we're not giving the ball up much on offense either... but still some issues to clean up.
Let's look at these turnovers realistically. Also, LSU got 9 points. Turnover #1 - Peterson Pick-6 Result - TD Evaluation: Efficient Turnover #2 - MSU has the ball at their own 34 yard line, deep pass intercepted by Hawkins at LSU 19. Result: LSU gains 15 yards, punts. Evaluation: MSU basically punted to LSU on first down. LSU was back inside their own 20, and couldn't move the ball effectively. Turnover #3 - The next play, Stallworth fumbles, recovered by Alem at the MSU 25. Result: LSU field goal after moving to the MSU 5 yard line. Evaluation: Questionable play calling on this drive. Shepard gains 15 yards on 2 runs, and comes out. LSU then stalls at the 5 yard line. Still, 3 points came from it. Turnover #4 - 4th and 5 at the LSU 38 yard line, Lee gets intercepted by Taylor at the LSU 17 yard line. Result - Again, LSU stalls. Gets stopped on a 3rd and 1 and punts back to State Evaluation - LSU LOST 20 yards in field position due to this "turrnover" instead of an incompletion and a turnover on downs. Yes, as a defender I am sure it is hard to intentionally drop an interception that gets put in your hands. The two turnovers that LSU forced that were on MSU's side of the field turned into points. It could have been better, but 9 points is 9 points. The other two turnovers could, and in my opinion, should be looked at as a starting drive instead of a turnover, and both worked out better than punts would have for State (likely).
3 rushing first downs and 9 passing first downs aint going to cut it. These are even more imperfections that LSU needs to work on. Again I don’t want to sound negative but if LSU is going to beat teams like Bama and Florida they have to become more consistent when they have the ball. I am tired of people saying the wet ball or the rain that is bull $h!+. Mississippi had double the first downs then LSU. Their balls weren’t any dryer! Were their athletes better? Hell no. Were their fundamentals better maybe so? They ran the option better. Mississippi controlled the ball in the second half with solid elementary consistency. Why b/c they know how to run the option and Jefferson can’t. PS I am glad that some of you had the balls to talk about it.
Just wondering...did you have inside knowledge of how dry their balls were? or how wet? You seem to have the scoop and inquiring minds want to know.
"Just wondering...did you have inside knowledge of how dry their balls were? or how wet" I laughed out loud for about 10 minutes on that one.... Lord I am crying. I guess simple things please simple minds but I cannot stop giggling.... This should win an award for post of the year....
