you think L.E.M. knows this, and will hire someone with that philosophy at the end of this season?
Ok my first ignored person here.
I'm pissed at Chavis!!! But, not that pissed! Go away now.
And you are headed to the ignore list!
WTF is a 21st Century style defense?
We need to vaporize our opponents with lasers.
So the incredible meltdown (super-soft prevent defense) against Bama last year was okay with you?
Our defensive style of play is right out of the 1990s. It's too easy to figure out. It's as simple as that. Offenses have come a long way, since the turn of the century, and a 1990s response to it won't succeed anymore against major opponents.
First, it wasn't a super-soft prevent defense. You should actually know a little something about a subject that you are criticizing if you want to be taken seriously.
Second, it isn't a style of defense that can be tied to a specific time. Chavis' defensive philosophy is far from dated, but can be taken advantage of if the right players aren't on the field. Right players, meaning that they have experience, physical ability and intellect. Nobody on LSU's defense has all of these traits, half would be lucky to claim two of them.
It's the same defensive philosophy we had in '11 and that team was one of the best defenses in LSU history. The biggest difference is, that team could get pressure with the front 4 (Kiki Mingo, Montgomery, Brockers, Logan) without having to blitz and forced a ton of turnovers. Talent and execution are what make a defense great. For this team, the talent appears to be there (although at this point, I guess that could be argued), the execution is not.
