ONE huge plus I think, is when you think about Andrew Luck & Stanford, or Landry Jones & Oklahoma, I can go on & on...but my point is, if Landy or Luck or most starting QB's were to get injured....you could easily say thats its for the teams season - right there! For us, not so much.... Here is Mett on getting playing time this year. Although Mettenberger said he does not expect to start this season, he does expect some playing time, given that he will have the inside track to the starting job in 2012. “Coach would be naive to just play (Jefferson and Lee) this year and be preparing for the 2012 season with a quarterback with no game experience at all,” Mettenberger said. “I definitely think I’m going to get some meaningful snaps this year and I think I can help the team win this year.” Here is more comments from Jefferson - They really stand out from any other preseason interviews. “I definitely feel a lot more confident,” Jefferson said. “Everything that goes on on the field, I already know what’s going to happen before the play starts. It’s actually fun being out there, picking up blitzes, throwing the ball to the right receiver. So that’s a good thing when you know what you’re doing.” Here is Coach Miles talking about Jefferson. “He’s enjoying the position that he has on this football team,” Miles said. “He is now enjoying being who he is in that role. I think he is confident in where he is at and more relaxed. Nothing will happen on Saturdays that he hasn’t experienced before.” Here is Russell Shepard on Jefferson. “He’s been through the highs and lows of college football. He’s been booed by 90,000. He’s been cheered by 90,000,” Shepard said. “He’s taken his game to another level. He’s become a more consistent player, more of a consistent quarterback, and I honestly think, from the bottom of my heart, that he’s going to have an amazing year.” I know this feels like last year all over agian, but I am EXCITED as HELL - 9-3-11 can not get here quick enough :geaux:
That all sounds great as they stand in front of a pen and paper. I'd like to see one of them play consistently well in front of an SEC caliber defense.
I think the main point of the OP (as I understood it), is that we're not relying on our QB, or any one position/player, to get us to the dance. We have a complete team. We're a damn hydra. Cut one head off, and another one will pop right back up. It IS kind of exciting, really.
I don't know how much he can improve on his best perfromances but if Jefferson can eliminate the low points in his game this team will benifit tremendously. And it would be nice to have a sneak peak at Mett this year...
Yes, That is what I orginally started with and that is one thing I like about our team and our chances. But Also, I am excited to see Mett get some snaps even in mop up duty and I do feel better about JJ there, I may have been sucked in, I dont know yet
IDK...I've been burnt by JJ hype one too many times. At this point, I probably wouldn't believe it even IF I saw it.
Didn't we hear all this about JJ before last season? Everyone's pointing toward how great he was in the Cotton bowl, but 10 of 19 for 158 yards? That's what we have lowered our expectations to, that's a breakout game? I hope he's much improved, because I don't think he'll get pulled unless we lose, and I don't want that, but I ain't jumping on the JJ bandwagon, not just yet. I just don't want to sit through that ugly QB play for another year. To much talent all over this team to settle for QB play like last year.
