He is rightfully regarded as the best agent for football coaches. I don't know if you all heard of this, but supposedly Glen Mason of Minnesota was supposed to take over at MSU. His agent is Jimmy Sexton. But, Glen Mason wanted an out-clause for Ohio State and MSU was not going to give it to him.

Glen Mason's dream job is Ohio State, but it won't open up for him soon. Anyways, Jimmy Sexton had a plan back then to give Nick and Glen boosts in pay and better jobs. It fell through supposedly when Glen wanted an Ohio State out-clause.

He may be willing to leave Minnesota, but he does not want a rebuilding job. But, Sexton is a great agent with up to 10 firings possible in the NFL look for a lot of coaches in college to get raises.

Oh by the way if and if Nick does leave LSU in the near future, which I doubt will occur, don't be surprised if Glen Mason is a leading candidate.

All the good ones illegally recruit high-school players....just find a s (tar, get to know him, help his family out....secretly funnel money into accounts.....make sure he knows that the only way in hell he is going pro is if he is with you....once he signs you'll get a nice 20% commishion and you're name out there...after that it is easy.

Tell your star (you're only client right now), that you will rebate him in cash 2% of your commishion for each person from his team that he convinces to join you (tell him to pump you up like a god)...for him it is free money.....then when he starts sending you players, base the 2% rebate on 100% of your 20% commishion (so it is really only 0.4% of what he paid you in commishion)..kids are stupid and he will never question it (and if it does, the simple answer will look legit)....soon you will have 5-6 clients....then cut your commishions to 12.5% and give them all the same offer....when you get to 20 clients you should be set for a while and you will be able to give them all personal attention.

that is how i would do it anyway.

I think he smokes that "wacky tobacky" as Nick put it in a press conference in Year 1, I believe it was...

Dude...Most agents get their jobs because they're as good or better recruiters than collegiate head coaches. The premium comes on cultivating relationships with coaches on both levels-the collegiate and professional levels.

Essentially, that's what you'll be. The go-between. The guy that brings this guy from one level to the next. The guy that obtains transportation. The guy that talks to the league and the GM's. The guy that sets up you working with a trainer to improve your draft stock. They guy that has the nutrionist to slim up that pudgy offensive lineman.

The guy that finds the guys out of college, and brings them to the NFL...

Guys that use underhanded tactics end up like Tank Black.

It's also counterproductive to deal from the bottom of the deck as an agent. Just think about how much money you LOSE by tossing a young kid some bones before it's legal to do so.

Next thing you know, ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Mel Kiper are breaking stories and questioning your guy's ability to work within an NFL system, and you're lucky to get a few hundred stacks of high society above the league minimum, which affects the AGENTS bottom line.

The days of Tank Black using runners to get those guys is long gone...Football players are-for the most part-too smart...

Now, basketball players? Whew...man...I think there are more agents out there for basketball players than there are basketball players...

A LOT of big name basketball players have become so disgusted with agents and all that goes with them, that lots have obtained respected national law firms to negotiate their contracts.

The pricing is up front, you get the same specialized knowledge, and you sign a contract that usually saves the player HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS, if not MILLIONS in commissions. 10% of 140 million that Kevin Garnett signed is a PRETTY PENNY.

But, had he just got a great law firm, he might have spent a few hundred thousand, gotten the same deal, and had even MORE oversight and recourses in the case of underhanded dealings by his representatives.

Grant Hill and others have used law firms to start negotiating all their contracts, endorsement deals, and shoe contracts. It's much more effective, and much less expensive than the run of the mill process of hiring an agent.
