With each passing day, I'm seeing more and more signs of and opportunities for something we have not seen for most of the past 40 years: a closer relationship between LSU and the New Orleans Saints, both organizationally and of one another's fan-bases. Yes, number of LSU fans are Saints fans (I am one, for example), there has been a noticeable number who are not. In fact, there's been downright acrimony between the two organizations in the past...though most Saints fans cheer for LSU because, well, everybody likes a winner. But this is already the most unusual season in either organization's history, so why not toss in a mutual love affair, of sorts, between both teams to make it a little...stranger. Consider: --Jim Haslett was quoted after yesterday's game as having watched the LSU game on Saturday, and for having rooted strongly for LSU, "because a win was so important" to people back home. --LSU has agreed to host four Saints home games, including an otherworldly October 30 match against Nick Saban and Miami. (How cool would it be to have Devrey catch the winning TD in that game?) Yes, saying the Saints intensity and teamwork are finally matching their above-average talent is as premature as saying LSU doesn't have the defense capable of winning a championship, but you gotta admit the Saints looked really good yesterday. They'll need all the help they can get to make the postseason, and that means getting some mad, mad love in those Baton Rouge games down the stretch. Pack Tiger Stadium and cheer hard for these guys, because if Sunday was any indication, they're going to bust their asses like never before to win for you if you call Louisiana and the Gulf Coast in general---and New Orleans in particular---home. :thumb: (As for me, I'll do my part by getting to San Antonio for all of those "home" games.)
I'm a Saints fan and will continue to be one. I was already planning on going to the Miami/N.O. game, and now there's no doubt I'll be there. One thing I've been unable to figure out as of yet is how they swapped Brooks in for Jamarcus Russell at the end of that long 1st quarter drive without anyone noticing. I for one am very happy about them playing some games in Tiger Stadium this year. That's going to rock 'n rule.
I heard it put once that, Not all LSU fans are Saints fans. But MOST Saints fans are LSU fans, unless they come from Tulame.
No, I can honestly say now that I have lived in Metairie for 7 months, that a lot of Saints fans HATED LSU. The distaste for the other goes both ways. I'm hoping through this some of that will change.
I lived in metairie for 30 years so you must be talking to some greenies because most saints fans I knew were LSU fans. You sure you're not living uptown? need a map!???
I think those were mostly weenies. Most of the saints fans I know, love lsu especially those from the "Parish"
Sorry, I live in Metaire, work in downtown, but I can't say I've heard this from first hand accounts. I'm going on what I hear on the local Sports talk shows, and what I see posted on SaintsReport.com. I'd say it's about 50/50 from those places whether they love LSU or hate LSU. I just know it's not a true statement to say "All Saints fans are LSU fans" anymore than it is to say "All LSU fans are Saints fans".
I have never pulled for the Saints in any way. I will make this year as an exception because of what has happened...
It's been VERY easy to be down on the Saints for the entire time that I've been alive. Sure, I've joined in on it my fair share of times. I hate Benson, and have often disregarded the organization as a joke. But you know what? Every game I've ever watched them play, I get emotionally involved it. I just can't help it. They are the hometown team, and I'll get more PO'd when the screw up than any other team in the league...second only to  , of course.
