Nice. From "one of the best programs in the country" a week ago to crossing our fingers and hoping Les Miles doesn't turn us down to stay in Stillwater and, if he does take the offer, paying seven figures to buy out the contract on top of that.

Someon just saw Pres. Jenkins on tv giving an interview and he said point blank "no one has been offered the job"...and that 'we're waiting on a decision from a coach everyone would be happy with'. This interview took place just a couple of hours ago.

Here's my question, who is "everyone?" I get the feeling that doesn't really include everyone. ;) Maybe it means everyone at LSU (BOS), etc.

Being that the university's policy has always been that they don't buy out
coaches' contracts (unless something has drastically changed that I'm unaware of), the logical assumption is that the money to buy out Miles' OSU contract will come from TAF. Do you really think that TAF will spend that kind of dough to bring THIS guy to BR?

There's something about this whole thing that doesn't pass the smell test. I have a feeling that this is going to be a VERY interesting next few days.

Doesn't Pres. Jenkins contradict himself. How can "no one be offered the job if we're waiting on a decision from a coach everyone would be happy with". Sounds to me like an offer has been made.

    I need another drink.

Offering a contract is legal speak. Me and you could verbally agree to something we'd worked out, but if I told the media I had not offered you the job (not given you the contract to sign) then I would not be lying. Maybe they've told some other candidate that the job is yours if you want it...and if he declines, they are comfortable with Miles.

It could also be they are just biding their time until an NFL coach finishes his season - not wanting to cause distractions. Maybe the NFL coach doesn't wish to get 'into it' while they still have lots of work to do.
