Charles Rangel has hit on a perfect idea to ram home the point of starting ludicrous military operations around the world...reinitialize the draft. Then, all of a sudden, middle class families are going to see how Sapling's warmongering activities will directly affect them. Of course, I'm leaving out the wealthy (buy their way out of the draft due to influence) and the conservatives (who talk a good military game but never have the GUTS to participate in the frontlines themselves, ala Rush Limbaugh, ala Sapling, ala Dan Quayle, ala Phil Gramm, etc..

Uh, dimwit, you have missed the point

I would NOT sign up for immoral and unjustified military action that you, Sapling, and the other rightist wingnuts would want to use. You're the one who is so bad and so brave and SUPPOSEDLY believes in this policy. You sign up, BLOWHARD!

so under rangels plan, what would have happened to clinton?

The same thing that would have happened to the entire republican leadership, talking heads, including the great coward limbaugh himself. The only difference is that clinton isn't a hypocrite on the issue - the far right is - military service is great for everyone BUT them.

I don't believe Tom is calling for war...

Therefor the military service question is moot...

But most find it interesting the "current" war-mongers found viable escapes & excuses when called for duty....

It is the hypocrisy of the right-necks that is their undoing....

Re: I don't believe Tom is calling for war...

I don't want to get into the whole "defending what this country stands for" thing but Saddam and his ilk are probing for weaknesses and they believe they've found it in the attitudes of those who are hesitant to do what is necessary to ensure stability. Those who think Iraq is not a danger to all Americans are ostriches. Tom may not be calling for war but I suspect he'll be hiding behind the uniforms of the military when it's time to step up.
