That would mean that the coach won big at LSU. It is very rare for NFL teams to hire a college head coach. Whoever is our next head coach will probably not be here longer than five years based on past record. He will either be fired or go on to an NFL head coaching job. I don't want a coach that is just good enough not to get fired but not good enough that nobody else is interested. Ala, Chris Scelfo at Tulane. I think their should be no regulations on our next coach like "he has to be an LSU guy" or "I don't want a coach who is so good that an NFL team offers him $5 million and full control." That is how you end up with a bad (average) coach. See Mike Shula and Chris Scelfo. I would be thrilled with a top NFL coordinator like Nolan or Crennel that would be a top candidate for an NFL head coaching job this season. That would mean our coach was incredibly successful against the top coaches in football and repeated that success as the head coach at LSU. Losing head coaches to the NFL has really destroyed the Miami Hurricane program? Hasn't it? Who would want that job now if it became available? And, what recruit would want to go there because their coaches get taken by the NFL? (sarcasm)
Yes, you are....winning big does not mean the coach is going to the NFL. Coker, Stoops, Fulmer, and so forth.....
No, I do not want to lose another good coach to the NFL. I want a winning coach but I want him here for the long haul. Why would you want to go through what we just went through, again? There are great coaches out there that will dedicate more than five years to a school, I want one of those.
Good Point. I'll take a new HC headed to the NFL with no problem, even if it happens quickly, as long as he leaves us with 2 SEC Championships and 1 National Championship!
