This is kind of interesting. According to Scout.com (link)

In total points (quantity) the SEC ranks:

    1. Tennessee -- 2511 -- 27 signees -- (#1 nationally)
    2. Georgia -- 2168 -- 19 signees -- (#5)
    3. Florida -- 1756 -- 18 signees -- (#11)
    4. Alabama -- 1557 -- 30 signees -- (#16)
    5. Carolina -- 1318 -- 28 signees -- (#19)
    6. LSU -- 1307 -- 12 signees -- (#20)
    7. Auburn -- 1250 -- 20 signees -- (#22)
    8. Ole Miss -- 1106 -- 28 signees -- (#28)
    9. Arkansas -- 954 -- 24 signees -- (#32)
    10. State -- 863 -- 27 signees -- (#39)
    11. Kentucky -- 395 -- 24 signees -- (#62)
    12. Vanderbilt -- 305 -- 24 signees -- (#77)

But, when ranked by average stars-per-player (quality) the SEC ranks:

    1. Georgia -- 3.84 -- (#2 nationally)
    2. Florida -- 3.78 -- (#4)
    3. LSU -- 3.67 -- (#8)
    4. Tennessee -- 3.63 -- (#10)
    5. Auburn -- 3.15 -- (#18)
    6. Alabama -- 2.83 -- (#27)
    7. Carolina -- 2.79 -- (#28)
    8. Arkansas -- 2.67 -- (#33)
    9. Ole Miss -- 2.61 -- (#41)
    10. State -- 2.48 -- (#52)
    11. Kentucky -- 2.15 -- (#66)
    12 Vanderbilt -- 2.08 -- (#75)

I say any team that that averaged over 3.5 stars per player is getting the job done and rates an A. Teams averaging over 3.0 get a B. Teams averaging over 2.5 get a C. Over 2.0 gets a D. Thankfully no F's in the SEC -- under 2.0

Tennessee, Bama, and Carolina ranked high on the first list only because they signed so many players, not because they signed the best players.

For Tn to sign as many players as they did and still keep their avg stars over 3.5 they had a heck of a day yesterday. Our class is full of talent for only being 12 deep!

I tell you, it's really good to see this class turning out to be so strong. Last week on Conference Call they were projecting LSU will be top 25 or barely in the top 20. Oops!

I'd take SST over Conference Call if I could get it back.

The most significant aspect of this year involves both Tennessee and Georgia recruiting very heavily in Florida.

Along with Miami and FSU, Florida was squeezed out of strengthening their defense. This should delay the emergence of Meyer as a real serious threat by at least a season. Unless, of course, he can simply outscore everyone else.

I thought LSU was ranked 20th? Wouldn't that make them right?

Also, if you include the fact that LaFall was underrated and is considered as high as the 5th best receiver coming out of highschool - this kid should have been a 4 star atleast. That would boost both of our numbers.

Does it seem like more teams than usual had strong classes? It just seems to me (and I could be way off) that more teams in more conferences had higher rated players than usual. And some of the teams just took a boat load of highly rated talent as well (e.g. TN, Nebraska.)

Was this year just a banner year for recruits, or is this the norm, and my perception is off for some reason??

Why did Tennessee have so many open spots left? I thought they lost very little from last year......

They must have been under budget on their recruiting last year!
