Yeah that would be real safe creating a black market for illegal ammo. That wouldn't cause crime at all
And I suppose you think the AR in AR15 stands for "Automatic Rifle". Taxing ammo by 10000%. As has been mentioned, great way to create a black market for the stuff, in other words stolen ammo that crimimals are the ones to get their hands on. Those that want to target practice to be able to be more proficient at shooting and better protect their homes will not be able to afford it. Let's hear it for another asinine plan that does nothing but punish the law-abiding gun owners. The prices of ammo are already going up because people just want to be able to target practice so they can shoot responsibly if need in self defense, but are afraid of lame-brained, half-assed policies that will do nothing but punish law-abiding gun owners. Above is exhibit A in asinine.
How about only making a limited amount of actual ammo for hunters, and in order to purchase the ammo you must prove you are a hunter, then sell the shit out of and manufacture less than lethal ammo, rubber bullets and whatnot. Still prob creates a black market for the real shit though.
Prove your a hunter? Wtf is that? I'm gonna need a hunting license and a gutted deer to purchase some rounds for my 270? Yep. Would be funny as hell dragging a dead deer through Walmart though. gimme some shells so the rabbit can get it.
And what about those that don't hunt? But have handguns in their homes or businesses for self-defense if needed? Are you going to limit that? Are you going to say that we should only have as much as we need to shoot should an intruder break in? So no target practice? People at gun ranges are (for the most part) not just there to get their kicks shooting a gun. They are there to practice and be proficient should a gun for self defense be needed. And in states with carry concealed licensing, I want those people practicing, not just walking around not having a clue to true self defense with a handgun. And before you say to practice with the not lethal shit, you need to know that when you have the real thing in your gun, it will handle differently. That is why someone who truly wants to be a responsible gun owner practices out the ass with something like fmj, and then also gets in at least a magazine with PPA (which is now as expensive as hell), so they know how their gun handles with it. On a side note, I carry. I have a license. And I practice. Just over a month ago, my business was broken into in the early hours of a Sunday morning. A business down the street was also burglarized. I am often at my office by myself, working while it is quiet and I can get things done. When I am there, or back and forth to, I am armed. Two weeks after the burglaries, another business in the area was hit in the early hours. However, an employee who went in to ready the business for being open on a Sunday for holiday sales walked in on the burglers. He was stabbed multiple times and has serious spinal cord injuries. He is lucky to be alive. It is too bad he was not armed. I would hazard a guess that a gun would have trumped the knives of the criminals. Here is an idea, since the criminals used knives, we should outlaw all knives. And knife sharpeners, just to be on the safe side. Or maybe put a 10000% tax on the sharpeners.
Oh I don't know, maybe a hunters license, I had to go through a class to get one when I was a teenager, are those still around? And I invite you to allow me to shoot you with a rubber bullet and see if it doesn't ruin your day. And please stop with the guns to knives to hammers comparisons, that's just stupid. Unless you have created a gun that shoots knives and hammers thats a dumb argument.
