Like the Kennedy assasination, my draft notice, family deaths, I well remember exactly where I was when Cannon ran back the winning TD vs. Ole Miss. I'm sure very few on this board are old enough to remember it.

I was sitting in the car with my parents and brothers at a truck stop in Armistead, LA (Red River Parish). While traveling, we had stopped so my Dad could get some coffee to stay awake and had the radio on probably KWKH in Shreveport or WWL in New Orleans. We stopped for him to go inside when Ole Miss punted...............I said something, my Dad threatened to kill me or such, seems several in the parking lot were listening to it at the same time and made some comments about it. It was cold. And I think a guy from Winnfield, LA had a heart attack while at the stadium following the run back.

I was very young. My family would get together for a fish fry and listen to the LSU games on the radio. The only thing that stands out in my memory is my Uncle was going crazy during the run back. If he had not made such a big thing about it at the time, I probably would not have remembered it. By the way, my Uncle's house was in the Laural Heights area of Winnfield. The Tigers have a pretty good following up there in the pine hills. Dandy Don grew up a few miles up the road in the Tannihill community, also in Winn Parish.

Well, first off, we can assume that if they're on the board, they're alive.

I was 10 years old and a bunch of us were Trick or Treating and running the streets like a pack of wild dogs. I remember a guy named Bob Ray who was listening to the game on his car radio out in the driveway of his house. Cannon made the runback while we were arriving at his place and, needless to say, he was excited. That year was my first real exposure to LSU football because my Dad worked away a lot and the rest of the family wasn't into sports so much, but I remember all of the talk about "L S Shoo" and there was a buzz about the team that I hadn't seen before. The next year we nearly went undefeated and the LSU bandwagon was running full steam. By now, I was reading the Sports page everyday and fully into the Tiger thing. In 1963, I attended my 1st game in TS and the hook was in. We whipped Miami's ass, by the way.:thumb:

Edit: I got to thinking about those times and I remember reading the Sports page every day after school (we got the paper in the afternoons, then) and becoming fascinated with MLB. The Yankess were huge back then and I just started to follow the team. My Dad was a Yankee fan so it's natural that I became one too. Now I'm despised and spat upon for that, but I don't care. I will always be a Yankee fan. Anyone who can remember reading about the home run race between the "M&M Boys" in '61 will know how big a thing that was.

I've met Mr Cannon. Used to go to him when I was a kid and his office was on Government near Goodwood. His house was not too far from mine and we used to ride our bikes over there. But as far as the runback? I wasn't a twinkle in my Dad's eye yet. He was a senior in High School. Well maybe I was a glimmer...hormones you know.

I also listened to it on the radio.... in Auburn. It was a rainy Halloween night, one to remember if you are a sports fan.
