Who thinks Saban would have left LSU or Miami without the big Bucks? Yeah, he loves Bama, loves coaching college ball all the way to the bank. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=629370 A
We ought to be thankful (as a society) Nick Saban is the only one manipulating the success of college and pro sports. I'm thankful that Nick Saban is the only coach telling teams "I'm here for the long haul", "They'll have to carry me out in a pine box." etc. Just think what we'd be teaching our young people if there were more coaches doing this?
I'm not sure what all this means or how it is going to play out. I'm just intrigued with the impact this move by Bama will make across all of college football. The impact goes way beyond the football program and there are no guarantees for anyone except for Saban's money. I smell a 60 Minutes program in the not to distant future.
This didn't just become a problem. Take a look at Charlie Weiss and Bob Stoops' contracts. This problem has been getting worse for years and has been out of hand for years.
