The Board of Supervisors want much more control in the selection process of our next head coach. That, in itself, scares the hell out of me. A lot of big wigs were not enamored with the control that Nick Saban had over this LSU football program. They are definitely looking to bring in a guy who they can "control". If that doesn't scare you, then nothing will.

That is why guys like Jimbo Fisher will be "in play".

Mark Emmert is now gone, and that also presents a problem. Emmert is the one who brought Saban in. With the new chancellor coming in, it's hard to see that he could wield any influence in this process. Skip Bertman has the potential for being a mere puppet in this "sideshow".

LSU is only 2 bad hires from sending this football program back to crappyville. Nick Saban was the most important hire in the history of LSU football. The next coach will prove to be just as pivotal in whether LSU can keep the train barreling down the tracks, or suffer a disastrous derailment.

    What say you?

I'm frightened, and only me getting a glimpse of their short list will help. Since that likely won't happen, I'll be nervous until he is announced.

Where do you hear that the Board wants "much more control". I think that they are smart enough to give Skip a lot of say in the process. You are correct though in pointing out that if this is the case we will end up with a coach that will have a difficult time accomplishing the things NS did.

I'm not worried. Skip has my confidence and he's had a head start at putting together a list of coaches to aid in speeding up the process.

I have heard some rumblings about the board wanting more control as well, which does worry me a little but not a lot.

I firmly believe that if we hire Coach A and he wins the SEC next year....he will eventually get the power Saban got when he was here. Football is the main sport at this college and brings in the big dough.

This isn't the first time I have seen that the BoS wants more say in the process and to be perfectly honest that scares me more than anything. So, yeah I am concerned.

Another thing that has me worried is bringing in a guy that can recruit his ass off and is smart enough to get good coordinators. Not worried about the recruiting this year. We can have a relatively "down" recruiting year and be fine if the new coach can get it done next year.

Ok, so I lied. I ain't just concerned. I am scared to death right now. The last thing I want is our beloved TIGERS to wallow in the depths of Ole Piss mediocrity.

This is a great post and needs to be addressed. The difference today is that TAF holds tremendous power. Back in the old days the BOS controlled the power structure. Emmert broke that up. The good news is that Jenkins is still here along with Skip. I think O'keiffe??? will side with TAF. It has been reported that the new chancellor does reconize the importance of national exposure that sports provides.(To me that was the greatness of Emmert).

Skip knows about what it takes for success and I am confident he will find a man that fits the part.

I am concerned in regards to the class of the man because that reflects to the field. While I believe Coach Saban should have handled this deal a lot differently he had a lot of class. I would not like to see us hire the Houston Nutts and Tommy Tuberville's. I have a friend of ours that despises Tuberville even though she graduated from Auburn. She will tell you in heart beat that he lacks class and is only interested in what is best for himself.

Don't be fooled. Bertman and TAF are like this (fingers crossed).
