Around the SEC – spring can be soooo slow when Tiger Baseball is down Starkville – Mississippi State sophomore tailback turned safety Brandon Thornton (5-9, 194 lbs) from Homewood, Alabama who started four games last year; and sophomore reserve quarterback Ty Evans (6-3, 197 lbs) from Lexington, Tennessee who played in two games last year have informed Coach Sylvester Croom that they are leaving State and transferring to other schoos. Auburn – Auburn (LSU’s next SEC series) ended a 18 game SEC losing streak dating back to last season when they beat Ole Miss 3-2 on Sunday, April 1, 2007. Auburn is now 20-11 overall, 1-8 SEC. Ole Miss is now 21-9 overall, 5-4 in the SEC. Nashville – Vanderbilt running backs coach Kenny Carter doesn’t understand why any fans would complain about “running back by committee” situations on their teams. "You'd better have five tailbacks in this league," Carter said. "Heck, you'd better have six. Anybody that thinks they can play with one tailback in this league is fooling themselves — especially if you're going to run the ball. You need guys with fresh legs that know what you're doing." The Commodores had five tailbacks in spring practice. Only redshirt freshman Kennard Reeves has yet to play in a game. Seniors Cassen Jackson-Garrison and Jeff Jennings combined for 431 career carries. Freshmen Jared Hawkins and Gaston Miller combined for 56 carries last season.
LSU Baseball is down, unfortunately, but look at the pluses: We already played South Carolina and Kentucky and have Auburn this weekend. Also, even though this team loses a bit more than I'd like, I still enjoy watching/listening to them. They don't know the meaning of quit. This season is still young and we're getting better at the plate. Now we just need to get better defensively. Having Bradford in the 'pen will REALLY help this team out.
