Around the SEC from local newspapers – February 2, 2007:

    • Tennessee announced plans for a $6 million renovation of its baseball stadium, Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The stadium is 14 years old. The renovation will include resurfacing the field, a new brick veneer entrance and expansion of permanent seating to 3,500.
    • Memphis, Christian Brothers HS LB, Chris Walker, a Tennessee commitment, declined an in-home visit from Alabama HC, Saban; while Memphis Wooddale HS WR Roderick Davis who was a lean to Memphis, is considering a visit to Alabama this weekend. Alabama has not recruited Memphis since the Albert Means/NCAA scandal several years ago.
    • Olive Branch HS QB Cannon Smith, an Ole Miss commitment, has reopened his recruiting with a visit to Hawaii on Jan 20, and a visit to Miami this weekend. The son of FedEx founder Fred Smith is facing legal problems from a drug arrest in Collierville, TN several weeks ago.
    • The Jackson, MS Clairon Ledger’s “10 Most Wanted HS Recruits” include 4 Mississippi St. commitments, 4 Ole Miss commitments, 1 Auburn commitment and 1 LSU commitment (Stevan Ridley, RB/LB (6-0, 215).
