Oxford - Ole Miss AD Pete Boone says he was surprised by Tigers Van Chancellor hire (I find this one hard to believe). The spring game was played before 21,400 fans. Senior safety Kelin Johnson describes the first team defense as “horrible”. Defensive Coordinator Willie Martinez says the defense has been giving up big plays all spring in scrimmages and not just against inexperienced players, but seniors who should be the team leaders. Oxford – Ole Miss QB Cliff Davis leaves team after not playing in the spring game. Davis was considered a long shot in Ole Miss open QB competition this spring. He said despite being assured by the staff that he would play in the spring game, he never got a snap. Davis came to Ole Miss after two or three years with the Houston Astros’ farm system. Meanwhile, junior QB Seth Adams seemed to have the upper hand in the ongoing QB competition after the spring game. Junior Brent Schaeffer only completed 2 of 5 passes for 13 yards in the spring game. Hattiesburg – LSU’s next SEC opponent, Ole Miss lost to Southern Miss in Hattiesburg for the third or fourth straight time. The Rebels will remain on the road and not return to Oxford between the Southern Miss game and the LSU series.
