In an interesting situation, an LSU verbal commitment and an Auburn commitment are living together. This was a feature in yesterday's (8-5-04) Huntsville (Al) Times. it's not online yet so I can't link it. I turns out that a kid, Chris Keys who is touted as perhaps the best H.S. player in the country is stying with the Charles Sharrief family in Stevenson, AL, a small town in North Alabama which has a stong football program (North Jackson HS). Mr. Sharrief has become Keys' legal guardian and.......his son Ali Sharrief commited to play for Auburn last week. There is a long background to this. Briefly, Keys was aplayer at Port Barre, La. H.S. last season and was All State as a strong safety. He was caught one time with marijuana in school, suspended and declared inelgible to play in La. this season. So he moved to Stevenson hoping to play there this year. Now, because of rules, the Alabama H.S. Association has ruled Keys inelgible to play here. The reul is that a player whos is inelgible to play in another state can't transfer and play in Alabama. I'm not sure how this plays out but Keys and Sharrief are close friends and who knows, maybe one will persuade the other to change his mind. Having reported that, let me change the subject a bit. I haven't posted in a couple of days following some unfortunate excahnges and accusations earlier this week. In reflecting on that, and how much time I spend on just 2-3 boards, I have realized there are much better and more productive things to do with that time (as some of you even pointed out). I remain concerned about the bitterness between some, and I emphasize SOME, Auburn and LSU fans. It strikes me as interesting that two of our future players can be friends and live together. If that so why can't all of us be strong rivals but civil to each other, even in an anonymous manner on internet boards. LSU is a great school, I have LSU relatives and friends, and I wish good luck this season...... ....at least to a point. I hope you go 9-2 in the regular season with losses to OSU and Auburn. Remember, my wife is an OSU grad and we DO have to keep our Beavers happy don't we. With that I bid you adieu (is that a cajun word?)
Chris had some trouble in Port Barre. It was in the paper awhile back that he was living in Alabama. Not sure what the legal problem was.
Its because of that internet anonymity. I live in Alabama, in the middle of a ton of Alabama/Auburn fans. Some of them are my friends, others arent, but it has nothing to do with their collegiate allegiance. Collegiate allegiance....that sounds kind of funny if you say it out loud.
