Our coach blew this game when he didnt get a reliever ready for 6th inning. Floyd has struggled to get past 6th all year. why wouldnt you have someone throwing in the pen until he walked 3 straight batters. Momentum turned them. you never run when the ball is hit to third base. Total mistake. Never get the first out at home. Our batters were lost all game. We deserved to lose this game we made big mistakes late in a close game. This is the worst home plate umpire i have ever seen. He was bad for both teams. How does someone this bad get to call a college world series game.
Im his defense, two of those batters should’ve been struck out. down deep inside I never felt like we had th we pitching to go deep in this tournament anyway
For about 4 batters in the bottom of the 6th, there was no strike zone. Hurd split the plate on 3 straight pitches at one point and got 3 ball calls. But, @CalcoTiger is right, we stayed with Floyd too long. I texted my brother in the 5th that I thought he was out of gas.
I want to watch the replay, but it looked like the runner was caught in between third and home and probably could not have gone back to third without getting tagged. Might just have been bad luck. But I wonder if the SEC hosed us by having the umps graded by the pitch grading video technology all year. The umps in the SEC were forced to bring the strike zone in and make it consistent. Now we get in the tournament and we can't handle the "normal" (not really) ump that has a strike zone that moves around. Complaining about it during the game only makes it worse. Did not help when batters went to first before the call. Umps don't like to be one upped.
You're probably right, Morgan runs really well, he was amped up and probably ready to jump the moment bat hit ball. Then again, that's why you have a base coach: "Relax, you're not forced and there's nobody out. No need to take a chance here."
