Not to harp on the Satin issue, but these Bama people are truely nuts.

This article is on al.com today. They have to pay Shula's assistants .5 mil if they don't get a new gig.

    http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/birminghamnews/index.ssf?/base/sports/116868335124350.xml&coll=2

    Best part of the article......

[[By firing Shula on Nov. 26, the university agreed to pay his $4 million buyout, which equals $63,492 every month through January 2012. The total is derived from Shula's base salary of $3 million, plus the $200,000 per year he is owed for each of the five years left on his deal. This figure decreases if Shula finds another job. In that case, Alabama would owe only the difference between what he was owed monthly and what his new job would pay him.

Saban's contract guarantees him $32 million over eight years. He will be paid $3.5 million in the first year, which is $291,666 per month. Plus, there is the additional cost of Saban's staff, not all of whom have been hired, none of whom have finished contracts.

If Saban fulfills his contract and Shula does not find another job, the school is scheduled to pay $355,158 a month to the two men. ]]

This keeps getting better by the day and is ridiculous.

I'll keep CLM at his current salary.

Let's consider something, shall we? You have the coach at Air Force pulling in 1.5 million a year. Comparing one to the other, it's not a stretch at all for Alabama to be willing to pay this amount, and neither is a stretch to think Alabama can't afford it.

Heck, just the payouts from the bowl revenue we'll be receiving soon covers a lot of this $. And, before you think about it to hardly, there are some VERY, VERY deep pockets within the Alabama ranks.

Quite frankly, 8 years at 32 million is just a drop in the bucket...heck, less than 2% of our Athletic Revenue.

The bottom line is there are a lot of feelings hurt around the LSU fan base...and, anything you can think of to try to belittle the move, you grasp.

Something sure is strange when Bama fans are coming out of the woodworks and are over here 24/7 trying to justify the move.

Say what you want, but I agree with Colin Cowherd, the Bama fans self righteousness is down right hypocritical after the way this fan base reacted when Fran left you all. And for one of the poorest states you are taking a big gamble with that much money guaranteed. If Saban tanks (not living up to the ludicrous expectations) you are in a deep deep hole.

You don't know what it means to be a member of the SEC, do you?

I have to ask. Justify the move? The move firing Shula or hiring Saban?

Again, one only has to look at the increased revenue hires like this lead to...see ND, see OU. Heck, OU's Ath. Dept. revenue went from the mid-20's to the mid 60's with Stoops hire.

Quite frankly, the only coach in the SEC I would consider to be on par with Saban, or perhaps a bit better (game day decisions) would be Spurrier. However, that all equals out when you consider the amount of energy and time Saban devotes to his job.

You lost me. The revenue I was talking about was the bowl payouts held in excrow for the years Alabama was under sanctions. That money will be paid out next month.

What you fail to acknowledge is the standing the University has when it comes to revenue. It isn't a gamble, at all.

Ludicrous expectations. I only need to point the the past 8-9 decades, which have every coach at Alabama having 10 win seasons, save one, Ears Whitworth.

Put a solid coach at the helm...the situation will only improve.
