They are praying to God that Miami wins this game. They cannot afford a 3rd straight year of controversy over their system. If VTech wins out, they will pass UT in the BCS polls with their win over a very highly ranked Florida State team in the championship game (ACC has gone to a 12 team, 2 division conference this year and has a championship game, just like the Big 12 and SEC). UT losing out for the championship game in the very last game of the season will send people into an uproar. It will be the end of this system for sure. Let's hope it happens. Go VTech!
I can't really bring myself to root for any team in this game. No matter what, if LSU beats Bama, I'll be pulling for whoever wins this game to lose in the ACC Championship. It would be a nice consolation prize though to watch VT go unbeaten and pass Texas.
Even if... Va Tech ends up finishing out, the thought they'd pass UT is one I don't agree with. The idea of having 3 Heisman candidates on the field playing for the BCS Championship will be to enticing for voters to pass up and that's just one storyline. Mack Brown coaching in the MNC game will get as much air time as the ole' 3-peat lines we'll read/hear day in and day out.
because FSU in my opinion is a much better team... I think their linebackers will make Vick look like a dummy... I do like Florida St, so it is a biased opinion, I will admit
Re: Even if... Believe me, it will happen....the computer polls will all favor VTech over UT after the FSU game bumps the Vtech SOS up as well as another win against a top 5 team. The human polls will close the gap between UT and Vtech enough to allow Vtech to overtake them in the BCS standings....well unless Mack Brown starts crying on national TV and begs for votes again....I haven't factored that into the equation. :dis:
Re: Even if... That's where it falls apart. The computers don't take SOS into account. But, that factor still counts in the human polls. If given a choice, do you think the voters would rather see a Texas vs USC matchup featuring Bush, Lineart (sp?) and Young or Bush, Lineart and Vick? Most of the voters in today's system don't all into the same mind set as we do in the South where we love defensive contest. Heck, it doesn't reflect in the ratings either. If I'm not mistaken Vick isn't even on the Heisman watch list, is he? I see this year falling into the same pattern as last year when you had Lineart, Bush and White all in the Heisman watch. JMO...and I'm one of those that would rather see the old bowl system than the BCS.
Sorry Terry, but you are 100% wrong there buddy. All of the computers take SOS into account, every single one of em. They took the SOS stand alone component out only. As for the old bowl system, it sucked even worse. As for the voters, I don't think the coaches give a crap about 3 Heisman favorites. The Harris people may.
Re: Even if... Are you claiming that the computer polls do not use SOS? If so, you may be interested in this site... http://www.bcsfootball.org/ It has links to all the computer polls and they explain how they derive their rankings.
