Beamer thinks Georgia spied on bowl practices...

I found this article amusing...don't be sending any spies to Va. now guys! :thumb:

Eight months later, Frank Beamer has floated an excuse for Virginia Tech's 31-24 loss to Georgia in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. The coach believes that maybe, just maybe, Georgia had an extra set of eyes and ears near the Hokies' practices leading up to the game.

"We practiced out at Georgia Tech and we let all kinds of people through there ... people we didn't really know," Beamer told The Roanoke Times. "And I thought it hurt us in the bowl game. I'm not blaming anybody ... but I thought Georgia knew exactly what we were doing in several situations."

Georgia coach Mark Richt understood Beamer's concerns, but he also was quick to douse any rumors of espionage.

"It is natural," Richt said. "I don't blame him for wanting to close [practice] or even feeling that way. To my knowledge we had absolutely no idea what was going on in their camp. I can assure coach Beamer we had no idea about anything going on."

The first half might have been an indication of that. Virginia Tech outplayed Georgia for 30 minutes. Georgia won the chess match in the second half and seemed to be in the right place at the right time every time.

"Sometimes you get the right call at the right time, and if that happens enough times coaches begin to wonder, 'My gosh they must have had us. Somehow had our signals or had something.'

"I can't tell you how many times that I have been signaling plays in, and if things aren't going well I will immediately grab the guy and whisper in his ear and run him in there because I am concerned they got my signal," Richt added.

But later, says he didn't mean to insinuate that....

Frank Beamer never meant to insinuate that Georgia spied on his team during preparations for December's Chick-fil-A Bowl, the Virginia Tech football coach told the Journal-Constitution.

"The last thing I was doing was accusing Georgia of spying," Beamer said. "And I don't think I insinuated that. I was just trying to explain to the media why I was closing parts of practice."

When explaning last week to Virginia media why he was scaling back reporters' access for the first time in 20 years, Beamer said his decision went back to his team's practice sessions for the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta.

"We practiced out at Georgia Tech and we let all kinds of people through there ... people we didn't know," Beamer was quoted as saying by the Roanoke (Va.) Times. "And I thought it hurt us in the bowl game. I'm not blaming anybody ... but I thought Georgia knew exactly what we were doing in several situations."

Georgia coach Mark Richt said he understood Beamer's concerns but that the Bulldogs didn't have anyone at Virginia Tech's practices.

"I can assure Coach Beamer we had no idea about anything going on," Richt said.

Beamer, who has a vacation home not far from Athens on Lake Oconee, said he might call Richt to make sure there is no misunderstanding.

"The gist of it was there were so many people at our practice that we didn't know," Beamer told the AJC. "But I never thought that Georgia did anything wrong.

"I know Mark. He's a good guy."

Richt's Bulldogs beat Beamer's Hokies 31-24 in the Dec. 30 Chick-fil-A Bowl at the Georgia Dome.

Beamer has been around for a long time...you think he might have learned that lesson a long time ago.

Man I don't care if they video taped it and had audio playing in their ear the whole game they lost the game after leading 21 - 3 at halftime. 21 points in 1 quarter and you can't score again in 2 additional. I'd say someone couldn't make the adjustments and got out coached in the second half. Evidently some teams saw through that rough and tough defense and went through it like a hot knife through butter. GA. Tech and Georgia both made them look foolish.

I hope they got someone on the sideline that knows the heimlich maneuver to save beamer from choking.

Watch for dirty tactics Tigers, Beamer is on the warpath. Maybe he can get it out of his system by slapping around a few of his players. The more I see/hear about this guy, the more I can see what a sniveling whiner he is.

Seems to me, people that cheat, always think that others are cheating them.
