Man, It looks like the Black and Gold DO have a chance to play on Jan. 2. Whodda Thunk? And.... at the expense of Michigan. Life is good!! This hot off the press: "During halftime of Saturday's Northwestern-DePaul basketball game, Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany and Northwestern athletic director Mark Murphy both felt strongly that Northwestern will be selected this weekend to play in the Sun Bowl Dec. 30 in El Paso, Texas. Delany, who thinks Ohio State will receive a BCS bid, sees Wisconsin and Iowa headed for the two bowl games in Florida (Capital One in Orlando and Outback in Tampa) while Michigan will be going to the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. Northwestern, Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan all tied for third in the Big Ten." Link from the Northbrook Star: http://www.pioneerlocal.com/cgi-bin/ppo-story/sports/current/nb/12-01-05-759009.html
hawker I own the outback in Iowa City. I was told today by our home office that The hawks will be in tampa for the Outback bowl
Thanks, O-Tiger, there's been stuff coming in all day that would confirm what you heard. All seems to be based on LSU winning Saturday. We travel well and we sure finished better than everyone else except PSU and OSU. btw, I love OutBack!!!!
Well Hawker, Why exactly do you think that Georgia has to lose in order for Iowa to get to the Outback? Georgia was at the Outback last year and beat Wisconsin. If Georgia were to lose the SEC CG, most Georgia fans would want the Cotton Bowl against a Big 12 team. The Capital One would be OK, but I understand that they want Auburn and word around here is that the Outback wants South Carolina. I'm kind of surprised that Michigan would quietly step aside and take an Alamo bid with a $ 1.55 million payout when the Outback has a payout of $ 2.75 million. I thought that Michigan beat Iowa? And Michigan hasn't been to the Outback since 2002. If anyone should get screwed in the SEC, it should be Florida and Alabama, because South Carolina beat Florida and Auburn beat Alabama. Florida ended up in third place in the SEC East and Alabama ended up in third place in the SEC West.
Man, it's early .... gotta catch a flight to the tundra that is Indianapolis.... love day tripping. Anyway, Chip, on why Georgia has to lose... perhaps you just answered your own question. It's my understanding things get messier if LSU loses, as Auburn's "lock" on the CapOne, as you say, seems strong and an LSU-Iowa rematch seems unlikely... and LSU is always attractive. As with you, I am actually amazed that we are even being mentioned for a New Year's game when Michigan is available. After all, they are Michigan... just ask 'em. Yes, they beat us in overtime, but we ended the season beating two of the three conference teams that beat them. We demolished Wisconsin 20-10 (they jumped out 10-0 in Barry's last home game, then we simply smothered them) and they are off to the CapOne, it appears. Then we crushed Minnesota. We're playing well... we bring lots of fans... and we are more fun than watching Lloyd Carr cry.
